“Quiet, secure and convenient”

The Penn Club has become my London base for my occasionaly visits to that city. Located very close to Russel Square tube station and not much further from Tottenham court it is also within easy walking distance from Goodge Stree and Euston tube stations. Around the corner from the British Museum and across the road from Russel Sware Gardens. Despite its central location I have found it to be very quiet even in a roadside room. Furnished in an old fashioned comfortable manner, there are no TVs in the room but there is a TV lounge. Free wifi is another plus as are the good breakfasts where you can choose to sit at your own table or join a long table if you would like to chat to any of the interesting people who tend to stay at the club. There are a range of rooms including en suite though with so many good clean bath, shower and toilet faciliteis on each floor it is not necessary to book en suite. There ARE stairs only to all the floors which might be a consideration for some but as a solo traveller, I have found in the Penn Club an affordable, quiet haven in a very good London location.

Room Tip: All the room types are pleasant at the club

I'm impressed with the Penn Club. They offer good accommodation for a very reasonable price in a desirable area of London. They offer outstanding value for your money. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend my friends do the same.

I have been staying in The Penn Club for many years and would stay no where else in London.Couldnt get a better location.Direct tube access from Heathrow. round the corner from the British Museum and within walking distance to Covent Garden. Two bus stops away from the National Theater.
I love London and all the hustle and bustle. When we visit London we pack in as much as we can .The Theatre and the arts are the highlights for us.So its always great when the day finishes up to head back to the peace and calm of the Penn Club knowing that a good nights sleep is guaranteed. The Penn Club has no bar and this is a great bonus .
Its a very old building and is listed so it retains its boarding house character. No tvs in rooms. No elevators. There is a lovely tv lounge/sitting room and a beautiful study library .
The bedrooms are old fashioned and spotless.Very comfortable and you will be warm as toast. Black out curtains keeping the noise and light out.
Breakfast is a serious affair.Lovely coffee and breakfast cooked to order .Special menu for vegatarians and usually fish available.Full selection of newsparers available free of charge in the tv lounge.
When breakfast finishes up the dining room is for the Guests use.A microwave and
fridge and freezer is available for guests use.You also have the option of ordering in.There are any number of good restaurants within walking distance.
Club is wi fi friendly.
The best kept secret is the communal garden at the back of the hotel which guests have the use of.Nothing more welcome in London of a hot day than to sit out in the garden .
The staff here could not be more helpful and never intrusive.
This is a Quaker establishment and the Ethos shows.I am not a Quaker and after every visit here I feel replenished by exposure to this way of living.
I would particularly recommend this residence for single travellers.

Lovely place, run by Quakers but I met all sorts there. Very tranquil atmosphere, no-one pressures you to talk but warm and welcoming atmosphere and opportunities to chat if you wish. My room was on the third floor (no lift!) and was very clean, fresh and with a comfy bed and feather pillow. No TV but I'm not fussed about that. The well stocked library smells of old books with big leather armchairs - lovely. Breakfast to die for - cereals, fruit, juice, fresh coffe and full English - all in the price of £80 - £90 for a single. No "in-your-face commercialism, just peaceful and comfortable. I'm not religous, but I'll be back.

I've visited he Penn Club a number of times when spending the night in London over a weekend. It is a Quaker run establishment aimed at visiting Friends though open to others. Consequently the guests tend to be on the quiet, reflective side, often with a scattering of off duty Catholic priests (it is advertised in the Catholic weekly, The Tablet). The quiet atmosphere means they do not have TV's in the rooms but that does mean you get undisturbed sleep. A good breakfast is included, there's a lounge/study/library (but note the rule on being quiet) and there is a facility for preparing microwave meals for those wanting to eat in. Rooms are very simply furnished but clean and comfortable but note there is no lift. The location is great, just by the British Museum, close to Russell Square or Holborn tube stations. The Penn Club won't be to everyone's taste as it is like staying in an establishment which is a cross between a convent and a simple guest house. Those looking for a quiet hotel with interesting guests will find it charming and quirky and will want to return.
