Description: Once a metal box factory, Hixter Bankside Restaurant & Bar is the little sister to Tramshed, Shoreditch. Paying homage to the original space, the design accentuates the natural features whilst adorning the walls with art by British artists. Replete with Mark Hix’s characteristic dining bar, the main room is bright and airy, defined by the natural light and the towering Himalayan salt-brick wall - a feature that reminds you of the menu offering: whole roast chicken and Mighty-Marbled beef aged in a Himalayan salt chamber in Glenarm Estate, Northern Ireland. These dishes, alongside more seasonal starters, are what it’s all about – large hunks of meat, designed to share. Downstairs, the basement plays host to the latest outpost of the award-winning Mark’s Bar with seasonal cocktails and classics galore.

Visited Hix for Sunday Lunch and we were delighted with the whole experience. The food was incredible - very good value for money. Drinks expensive but normal for London pricing. Wasn’t keen on the Apple pie but just being fussy. Overall a great meal and would definitely return.

We went for an early dinner, ceviche was ok, smoked salmon a joke, ribs were fine for an average place, steak was good but unimpressive, mexican chicken salad had nothing mexican to it with slightly burned tacos, we had four waiters with only one being nice and reasonably attentive, overall a rather disappointing experience, not recommended!

From start to finish, this was great late lunch. Staff were friendly, and knowledgeable without being stuffy. Some of my party of 6 took the bottomless prosecco option, and drinks were topped up regularly. We were also given Chicken flavoured popcorn before our food arrived, which goes so well with aperitifs. The food, was really delicious with the highlight being the Chicken that one of my guests ordered, that is presented in a very rustic way (be cautious if you have any vegans on the table). We finished with the salted caramel fondue with marshmallow which was also a highlight and naturally perfect for sharing. Highly recommended and a great for larger tables, as there are dishes that are perfect for sharing and the tables are spacious.

Great option for brunch. Bottomless prosecco was good value and the staff were great and really tolerant of our boozy brunchness. The salted caramel fondue was awesome

I'd been a couple of times before, and so when I was catching-up with a friend I hadn't seen for years who wanted a nice steak, I thought of this place. We opted to share the Chateaubriand, and asked for it to be cooked medium. Unfortunately it came somewhat overcooked (almost well done), and so we had to send it back. Happily the staff were very graceful and apologetic about this. Although we had to wait 10-15 mins or so, new sides were provided so that everything was hot.

We were offered a free dessert or drinks, but wanted neither as we couldn't stay long. When the bill came, the charming waitress apologised again, and explained that the two glasses of wine and two side dishes we had had been deducted instead. My friend and I went away happy with this - things happen, and a restaurant won't always be able to get everything right for every customer. But it was dealt with in a great way - the deal was fair, and everyone was very nice and polite about it.

And in the end, the food was great quality (as it had been on previous occasions). Thanks Hixster for sorting things out - I'd be happy to come back. The place has a pretty good atmosphere too.
