Relaxed pub / restaurant literally next to the Thames. Had a few drinks with seats overlooking the water and some cheeky chips. Very relaxed atmosphere and stunning views.

About thirty years ago, when we first started visiting this pub it seemed to have everything: located in a charming and historic area of London it had a fascinating story of its own, was splendidly situated on the banks of the Thames with wonderful views, had suitable interior decorations and welcoming and friendly staff. It still has all those advantages (though Greenwich has lost a lot of its charm and interest). But in those days it had one outstanding feature: a restaurant that went well beyond standard pub food provision in range, quality and service. Then overnight that changed - with the departure of the kitchen team - and we stopped going there.

Today we returned after several years to see whether anything had improved on the culinary side during the intervening period. Alas it has not. Indeed, if anything it has gone further downhill. Although there is a 'restaurant' still, it serves the same menu as the bar. The hot lunches we ordered from a less than exciting menu were all served on cold plates and were at best tepid by the time they reached us, and even if suitably warm would not have been special. Perhaps we were just unlucky, but we will not return in a hurry: there are far better pubs at which to eat on the Greenwich peninsular. There remain reasons for calling in at this historic institution - not least, watching the river over a few glasses - but our experience today was that the food was not one of them.

Have only popped in for a drink a couple of times on a riverside walk, always had great service with a smile, would totally recommend! Not sure about ales or food but of course the views of the Thames are amazing.

On a cold day in Greenwich 20 years back there was nothing better than a pint and a sandwich at the Trafalgar. The good news is, it still is. Except the food is much better and the lovely family who took it over 12 years ago have preserved the good and even improved things. An excellent pint of Ghost Ship which is a fine ale and served by attentive and efficient staff. Had a dish of rabbit terrine which was very tasty along with an excellent and generous warm chicken salad. Great stuff.

We visited as part of a walk a little pricey but food was nice. 4 of us in our group and each had something different all arrived hot and all tasty.
Bar staff friendly and helpful.
Would visit again if down that way
