In London very briefly, I was so relieved to lunch at Wiltons after less than satisfactory experiences at two other leading establishments. Walk into the calm and tranquillity of Wiltons and the manic world outside just disappears. The ambience, the gracious welcome, the elegant staff and, above all, the food make this my favourite retreat in London.
On this occasion I enjoyed a delicate Lobster Bisque followed by sublime Venison - perfectly cooked a little rare - with a creamy Dauphinoise Gratiné. A glass of Wilton's excellent Chablis and then a real treat: the Sommelier had opened a double magnum of Gigondas 2008 which he was offering by the glass. This went so well with my venison and then the great cheeses that followed.
As always, Wiltons is THE place!
