This has a lovely, old fashioned feel as you walk in through the narrow bar. It is not the cheapest place, but the food is worth the little extra. My wife and I shared the Fish Meze. Luckily we had read the reviews before we visited and didn't order any starters as it was a huge platter of assorted seafood including oysters, lobster, crab, mussels, cod, smoked salmon, fresh salmon and skate wing - along with a dish of chips. The rest of the menu had a good mix of meat and fish dishes plus a couple of vegetarian options too. My daughter opted for the fish and chips which were pretty good.
Desserts were good too, the pick of our selection was an Autumn Trifle.
Would definitely want to go back next time we go to Whitby

We used to frequent the White Horse & Griffin but moved to the East Coast so did not visit for a while. We emailed the reception week before last to book for lunch and to ask if was possible to choose a dish from the evening menu. They did so without question. Needless to say we had a fantastic lunch along with nice chilled glass of prosecco to start off with - thank you so very much, we will be back as we had such a lovely time!

Eat here on Saturday 24th October 2015, as a family of three. The food and services were of a very high standard and food cooked to perfection.
We would highly recommend this place - but do book it's very popular.

Many thanks from the Sandiford Family.

We had a fabulous meal here. We will certainly visit again and would even make a special trip to the area just to eat here in the future. This restaurant serves some of the best fish dishes I have ever had (and I have had a lot!) We enjoyed a fish mezze which had fish such as mussels, lobster, skate wing, a whole crab and salmon. My daughter had fish and chips and really enjoyed that too. The atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly and quick to serve you when you want something but don't hover over you waiting for you to finish. Certainly one of the best meals we have had.

A snatched couple of days away was enhanced by our experience here. We stayed in the helga Maria room - lovely comfy bed, spacious, good bathroom and fresh milk, and Parkin as bonus... We ate In on the first night and enjoyed the food so much we returned the second too...the pork starter was fresh, interesting, the salmon with its beetroot and fresh salad a joy and the duck scotch egg with its spicy bean addition was a great modern twist on an quintessential English classic. Mains...while we'd Been uninspired by the turf and surf..the night before..though the steak was beautifully cooked - it needs less chips - or chips separate with a decent sized fresh interest in salad to enhanc it - w still returned . And weren't disappointed. Wd see grouse on the lunch menu..and had a treat with perfectly formed square of dauphinois spuds and roasted veg and kale..succulent And flavoursome.
This place won awards in the early 2000s..we came regularly pre children! You know how that is! With great new attentive managers I'd love to see this old cobbled inn find its place again in Whitby - it deserves it. It can do so much more than peppered squid and crab tagliatelli. I Give it a go.
