We were tempted by the offer of a half lobster thermidor and chips. We did not have a booking but we were able to get a table for 2, It was quite early around 6pm Friday night. The room we ate in was lovely. The staff were good. The service a little slow but as we were in no hurry ti was not a problem. The starter crispy crab scotch egg creation was excellent. The half lobster was quite small so do not order if you are hungry. The chips were quite soggy so we left quite a lot. Nice wine though, and kept cool.

The setting is lovely and cosy but the food was not good. It was served cold and tasted of not much. The wine was great and desserts were reasonable. Way too pricey for the quality you get. Disappointed!

Visited with a seven year old and nine year old , relatives from America, last week. Good job there were games available in the upstairs room we were put in, as the meals took over an hour to arrive. Had to ask twice for sauces, extra items etc. and my husband had to go down to the bar to remind them about the drinks we had ordered............not best pleased to find staff chatting rather than serving, they were not busy either! Food when it arrived was good but the chef must have been the only person working properly that day. Had we been without the smalls we would have walked out.

Three of us ordered the Roast pork dinner, with cracking and apple sauce. Unfortunately the food arrived merely lukewarm; I sent mine back but my family were too shy to do so. As I got towards the end of the reheated meal, I realised that there was no cracking or apple sauce. I asked the waitress who said "I'm sorry- you should have asked for it." But surely it's advertised as part of the meal??? it's a pity as some of the other bits were nice, once reheated.

On a short break to Whitby and enticed into The White Horse and Griffin by the selection of Gins on the board outside. The bar is very small and not wheelchair accessible, however very welcoming. The Staff were all very pleasant, we tried a cocktail and then had a meal in the restaurant, it was excellent, wonderful presentation and great flavours . Would definitely recommend a visit if in Whitby.
