Having visited Whitby several times in the past when we lived in Yorkshire, we'd never got round to eating at The Magpie, always being put off by rumours of eye-watering prices and the long queues at the door.
We made a concerted effort to not have any breakfast and made sure we were loitering around the doors just before 11.30am opening time, and secured an upstairs table with a view over the harbour.
We both went for starters, hubby having scallops and me the soup (both of which incredibly tasty and fresh), and then hubby going for regular haddock and chips as main, and I chose the whole lobster thermidor. Both main courses were beautifully presented, the fish perfectly cooked infact, good portion size and amazing chips. My lobster thermidor was out of this world along with the garlic potatoes. Sadly we didn't have room for dessert, and had to leave a few stray chips on the plate too!
Service was friendly and efficient, and the bill came to less than £60 which to say included a whole lobster thermidore was much less than we expected. Should we visit Whitby again, we will be the first in the queue again!
