Owner description: Dating back to medieval times, this splendid Church of England cathedral features magnificent 14th- and 15th-century stained glass, stonework and elaborate tombs.

An amazing piece of history, place of worship, architecture. We had walked through the city centre and thoroughly enjoyed every place we had visited. So we walked into the Minster with anticipation of topping off the visit with a walk around the interior. Unfortunately, we were greeted with a request for £10 each to have a look around. We turned around and walked out. This is a place of worship and I was being asked to pay to go into it. If it was a 'contribution' and I could decide, just as we encountered in our visit to Northern France's cathedrals last summer, then I would have not had an issue. Being asked to pay was irritating. Reminded me of Jesus and the market sellers/money changers in the New Testament.

So if you are happy to pay, it's worth a visit.

Birthplace of Guy Fawkes, UK's most notorious conspirators and present day Simbol of resistance movements - (the mustachioed masks). Very lovely city, quaint shops and restaurants. Georgian and Victorian architecture designs thought sections of the city. Recommended.

There will be many reviews about this wonderful cathedral but as you wander round this magnificent structure please visit the undercroft as this is an excellent feature in its own right detailing the previous Roman and Norman constructions on the same site.
To climb the tower, with its spectacular views over the city, is on a timed basis and you need to book in and pay an extra charge, I would recommend booking in as soon as you arrive otherwise all the times may be taken later.
