The hotel was lovely, we were situated in one of the deluxe rooms in the cottages on the side of the hotel. Great location and walking distance to Oxford town centre, reception service was great as well. The only downside was that during breakfast we were waiting ages to be asked if we wanted tea and coffee (we were half through eating) someone then did come to ask but then they never came back. We also had a three course meal on our first night and, we were waiting like lemons to be seated. There was a younger member of staff doing something behind the stand, they just walked off and did not acknowledge we were there, even just to say someone will be with you shortly would have sufficed ( this is one of first things you learn about customer service and dealing with people) we also waited a long time to be served, with the added pinch of salt of others who were seated after us were being served first. I’m all for giving employment opportunities to youngsters / students but some serious training needs to be invested in or have a mix of people who have extensive experience of working within hospitality if you want to try and pass the restaurant as a high standard venue.

Dear lilsooze

Thank you for reviewing your stay at the hotel. I am delighted to read how much you enjoyed staying in Eastwyke House, our 15th century farmhouse and also enjoying the location of the hotel. I have used this hotel for many years and always liked it. Well located, not 5* but serviceable. Now the experience is completely ruined by having to fathom an incredibly complicated parking set up involving downloading apps. A nightmare. Never again.

Dear d_jones25

Thank you for posting your review. I am very sorry you experienced problems when paying for car parking and assure you I have bought it to the attention of Parking Eye who look after this area. We do have two outside machines and also payment can be taken at reception.

Once again my apologies for your experience.

Just back from a 2 night stay while working in the area. Perfectly adequate visit, clean rooms and friendly staff. Breakfast was especially good with lots of quality choices.
Nice hotel happy to return.

We were very grateful to the hotel for changing our booking from the 18th to the 23rd March because of the snow. Thank you !
The hotel is set back far enough from the road to not hear the traffic. We had a standard room overlooking horses and geese in the fields so all very rural, and of course very near the river walk to Oxford. We took the regular bus from the main road into town.
There is a large car park which is now being charged for, which is a shame for residents but I quite understand the need to charge non residents.
The hotel has a nice feel and all staff encountered were friendly.
The buffet breakfast was very good but it took a long time to get coffee brought to the table as the dining room was busy. We kept being overlooked so had to call on the maitre D in the end.
We would definitely use the hotel again as we found it very comfortable.

The good...location, able to walk into the city about 10mins.
Room was comfortable and clean. We did arrive early and we were able to check in which was helpful to offload our luggage . Breakfast included in our price was very good.
Not so good...Receptionist wasn’t over friendly and we found our own way to our room. Parking is charged at £7.50 a day on top of the room rate so be aware.
No bottled water in room and speciality teabags limited to one earl grey teabag...ok if you like tetley and Nescafé...
Overall cost of weekend ...expensive stay for an average hotel....but we were obviously paying for the location

Dear Dscoggs1
Thank you for taking the time to write your review. Whilst I am pleased to hear you like the location of the Hotel and enjoyed the breakfast offering, I am sorry we fell short of expectations. I have passed on your comments to the Reception Team regarding the customer service your received as this is not our normal standard that we expect from our team. Regarding the parking, the company has invested in the outside areas in enhancing the driveway including additional lighting which has increased security, this was followed by a thorough investigation as to what other central hotels do in Oxford and also in large cities across the country. We do feel our car park pricing is competitive within the local area.
Kind regards
