Excellent Museum, pity that it is not better sign-posted and when you get there, there is no indication that there is a free car-park next to the Museum. Our Hotel Wi-Fi was not working so we could not check out beforehand. Other than that it would have received 5 stars. Excellent displays of what made Sheffield famous all around the world. you need 2-3 hours to go around and we were lucky enough to see the River Don Steam Engine run at noon. For example, one exhibition shows all the stages of making a garden fork (see photos).

The Museum was a trip down Memory Lane of the steel industry’s heritage with lots of participation exhibits for young persons
If you time your visit (12:00 or 14:00) you can see The Don Engine in-full steam the most powerful steam engine in Britain (12,000 horsepower)
Excellent museum must see

This has been on our bucket list for some time. Really fantastic place if you're into industrial history.
Some mind blowing exhibits like a pen knife with over 1800 blades and the River Don steam engine.
Really makes you think about the things Britain used to make.

Would have given this a 5 rating but is was let down a little by our experience in the cafe.
Our order was messed up. The staff apologised and offered a free dessert by way of compensensation which was something, I suppose.

Be careful where you park! As we approached we didn't see any signs for parking so we parked on a street nearby. The wardens are very keen and the signage is poor so we ended up with a ticket.
Ironically there is onsite parking so we didn't need to risk the street after all.

Very interesting museum about the Sheffield steel industry. Check out the times for the firing up of the 1200 hp steam engine. Get hold of a volunteer guide, they have worked in the industry and are very knowledgeable

My husband, son and myself were impressed by the whole museum and exhibits. The Don Machine was amazing. Places like these make us aware of the awful conditions that people worked in not so long ago.The health hazards were impossible to avoid due to the lack of equipment and knowledge. Well worth a visit.
The cafe was very nice too so don't forget to get your cuppa at the end of the visit.
