My husband and I had a lovely overnight stay in the Merchant House two weeks ago. We read the reviews and thought we would trust them. They were not wrong. If you like quaint, full of character, quiet and comfortable then this is the place for you. The care taken over breakfast was quite moving....down to the array of antique glass bottles with individual flowers from the garden placed in each one, homemade yohurt, fruits both fresh and stewed and the usual full blown English Breakfast. Having a cup of tea on arrival was a good start to what turned out to be a lovely stay. I was revisiting old family haunts and found this to be a lovely little hidy hole in a bustling town. Very highly recommended. Thank you to the owners.

Room Tip: Only two rooms so choosing is not difficult!

We stayed for two nights when visiting the Ludlow food festival, and had a great stay. The owners were charming, and made us feel very welcome. The house is amazing - very old and quirky, and lots of character. Our room was very comfortable, and we had a private bathroom with lots of lovely soft fluffy towels. The location was excellent - just a few minutes walk to the centre of town, and we were able to leave our car at the Merchant House which was a great plus as parking in Ludlow can be difficult. The breakfasts were first class - Ludlow is a very "foodie" market town, and the owners source the ingredients from local suppliers - the bacon and sausages were wonderful, and we even had a triple yolker egg!
Would definitely return when next visiting the area.

We spent an all too brief 2 nights here in July as part of our month long vacation in England and Wales. Not in the center of town, but a pleasant brief walk away, we were in awe of this beautiful, historic home from 1487. Our hostess, Rosemary, was very gracious and helpful, and we appreciated learning about the history of The Merchant House. The breakfast was delicious and she was very accommodating for my husband's low salt/low fat diet. The room was spacious and we appreciated the sitting room as well. The charm and character of the house mentioned in another review, and caring hosts, make this a most excellent choice for staying in Ludlow.

We stayed here for a weekend at the end of July, and the Merchant House made the trip. The room was beautifully furnished with exposed beams and gorgeous peropd furniture, it was beautifully clean and extremely comfortable. We missed out on the ensuite double room but a very large bathroom for just us was immediately next door so virtually the same. The breakfasts were honestly the best I think I have ever had (no need for lunch any day of our stay!) and our hosts were so warm and friendly, offered great advice regarding places to visit in the area and were extremely relaxed and flexible. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Ludlow!

Wow.... what a find! Booked last minute (the previous evening) & stayed for 2 nights in the most wonderful medieval house. Our room was lovely with lots of oak beams & all the extras you need to make for a great stay such as tea/ coffee making facilities, toileteries etc plus plenty of leaflets about the area.
Rosemary & Jonathan were excellent hosts with lots of information about the history of both their home & Ludlow itself. The breakfasts too were the best we've had with lots of choice. Indeed, nothing was too much trouble for them & were already looking forward to returning again soon.
If your visiting Ludlow (& you should - its a real gem) don't miss the opportunity to stay in this wonderfully preserved house full of charm & character.

Room Tip: Just visit & enjoy..!
