Although very interesting to see the building, at £15 each it is a rip off. We did the self guided tour and there was very minimal information on literally laminated pieces of paper, very poor. Also the place was absolutely filthy - rubbish kicking around and in some of the cells the toilets were literally as they'd been left some with faeces still in which I'm pretty sure wasn't for effect! Also we were told there was complimentary hot drinks but the facilities were disgusting. It is £4.50 to park all day. Why all day? We were only in there 1 hour and 20 minutes. Luckily we parked on the road for free (up to 2 hours parking)
This could be so much better if they were to put some effort in and make it come to life. Most interactive prison in the world apparently?

It is worth paying for the guided tour as this provides the insight and atmosphere. Without the tour I might have been disappointed as it needed a guide to bring it to life as he did brilliantly. Thank you Keith. As we progressed through the prison system we pondered on the past and present. I know there are aspects of the past I hate and parts of the now I think are too permissive, particularly access to drugs. Make up your own mind on the tour.

This jail was open from 1793 until 2013. We paid a little extra for the guided tour. The guide was good since he was an actual prison guard for 25 years but he didn’t have much history before that time period. Because of this I rate it average but feel it could have been so much better if more history was added to his dialog.

booked one of the guided tours, very interesting and showed most parts of the prison, make sure you wrap up warm it’s very cold in there but great to see such a fantastic piece of history that might not always be there, highly recommend, well done to you all that are involved.

Could be better with a bit more imagination . Not much to see , bought to life only by ex prison officers talks .. which are interesting to a degree . Two hours was far to long and nearly £20 a person its very expensive . Considering you can pay £45 for all day entertainment at Alton towers !! It's good use of the building which perhaps otherwise would be left and good for Shrewsbury town . But come on use your imagination this could be so much better !! It is absolutely freezing in the prison ... and I was to be honest, very disappointed .
