Stayed here regularly over the years. Had two bad experiences(with sleep) in the space of three months. The bed in 236 had a mattress which was so lumpy that we hardly slept. We had a long flight and we were absolutely shattered by the lack of sleep. I did tell reception but I obviously I don't know if they have changed it now. We had a room prior to that just along the corridor and had the same problem with that room. We have stayed many times so we know that all the beds are not like this! Some of the beds are really great (room 101a) springs to mind.

Food, service and price are all still excellent. Sleep is the most important part of the stay. Reception and management are very helpful and if we had realised how bad the bed was I'm sure they would have moved us. Unfortunately we were in PJ's before we realised. Come on Britannia, get these mattresses sorted out!

We will definitely be staying again but will check the bed out well before bedtime!

Room Tip: Don't stay on the ground floor!

    Dear Deaconblue,
Thanks so much for your honesty feedback, your comments were related to our maintenance team who did replace the mattress in room 236, we have added mattress toppers to all beds recently. As mentioned in your review a member of the team would have been more than happy to assist you if they were notified but we do appreciate this could be an inconvenience once in your night wear.
We do hope you notice a difference next time you visit.

    Kind regards,
    Dean Routledge

We got a brilliant price for a large double room. It does look a bit tired and the bathroom could definitely do with refurbishment but quite honestly it did what we wanted to do! We had a meal in the restaurant which was only £12 for 3 courses. It was pretty good and we would eat there again. As a quick stop over before or after your flight this is perfect. Staff were amazing and the lady would not be out of place in a 5 star hotel, she was so good, polite and efficient.

We visited here recently for an overnight stay before flying from Newcastle Airport. It is as most people say a budget hotel with tired rooms.
It was easy enough to find from the motorway and there is plenty of parking. Check in was easy and the guy on the desk friendly enough.
Our room was a double and it needed a good refurb. It just didn't feel clean but we booked budget so took it on the chin.
We used the bar for food and drink and I have to say the food we had was good.
On returning to our room we had just changed for bed when we heard a gurgling sound from the bathroom. When we investigated we saw waste had come up through the bath plug and was settled in the bottom of our bath... It smelled like sewage. We called reception and the response was immediate. The lady looked in the bathroom and smelled the same so we were moved immediately to a family room which again was tired. The TV aerial was not fixed and the chair in the room had tears in it.
Before leaving the first room I found a key card near the TV so handed it in which transpired to be the master pass to all the rooms obviously left by a staff member....
So overall at £70+ for stay and parking not bad but don't expect thrills.

Room Tip: The two we had were dated and needed a refurbishment

    Dear Jonny243,
Thanks for your feedback, I am so sorry your experienced issues with your first room. I will investigate why a key card was left, we do have strict signing in/our procedures for keys so this should not happen. We look forward to welcoming you again

We stayed here the night before we travelled and it was the best choice ever. The hotel is warm and welcoming, lovely and clean and the staff are lovely. We spent a couple of hours in the bar and had a few drinks and something to eat. We both ordered the rump steak and peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce was the best peppercorn we have ever had. The bedrooms are cosy and again very clean. The beds are really comfy both of us woke feeling refreshed and ready to go. We loved this hotel so much we have booked again for April and we will also be doing so for August.
