We have just returned from a stay at the Mill Cottage and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet relaxing break. The cottage is furnished to a a high standard and the attention to detail is second to none. The owners made us feel totally welcome and we were advised to call them if we had ANY problems, which we didn't. The whole atmosphere makes one feel that you are in your own home and indeed my husband had to remind me that this wasn't the case when I started to remove dead leaves from the outside plants!! We enjoyed using the hot tub and feel that the £10 per use is very acceptable. We certainly
hope to return and maybe book the Mill itself next time. Thanks to Simon and Sandie for enabling us to have quality time in a quality setting.
After reading some previously posted reviews, it was with great trepidation that we travelled to Braunston for our stay in the Mill Cottage. We could not have been more wrong. We were greeted by Simon (the owner) and given a guided tour of the grounds / cottage and the facilities provided. The cottage has been decorated to an extremely high specification and is in pristine condition. Guests have use of there own private hot tub and barbecue with sitting area. A small fee is paid at the end of the stay for use of the hot tub. The cottage is a short walk from the canal with access to 2 pubs canal side and 2 in the village itself. WIth helpful advice from the owners there are many local attractions to visit but you will need transport. There is a bus service through the village but it only appears to go as far as Rugby. All in all, we had a great stay, with very friendly hosts in excellent accommodation.
You can book the Mill or the Mill cottage, both of which are decorated to a very high standard. We stayed in the Mill cottage (our second stay - both times for our anniversary) and had a brilliant time.
The attention to detail is excellent, with extras such as full size bottled shampoos/conditioners/shower gels etc all provided, along with hairdryer and straighteners. Straighteners weren't great, so will take my GHD's next time!
Breaklfast goodies are provided for your stay, together with other extras such as bottled water.
The only downside really is that this year it felt a little commercialised - when we visited last year they were really just starting out and since then have appeared in home magazines and various newspaper travel guides and I wonder whether them being much busier has resulted in a slightly lesser attention to service. For example I ordered the option of champagne but asked if we could have pink, rather than white and was told we couldn't as they only provided white.
There is an additional charge to use the outdoor hot tub. I don't see why they can't just add the cost of this onto the room rate - it seems a bit wierd having to hand over your £10 cash at the end of your stay.
I also didn't like being asked for £50 security deposit on arrival - again it just feels a little odd for such a high-standard accommodation. I could understand it if we were a group of young teenagers (no offence!!) but we are a 30 something (approaching 40!) married couple enjoying a break away for our wedding anniversary.
The Braunston village is lovely and they welcome visitors. Two local pubs worth a visit. We travelled to Leamington Spa on the Saturday which was lovely, nice shops and lots of places to eat/drink.
I do love this cottage - it is the first I have been to and genuinely wanted to return, we will definitely be going back next year - maybe we'll try the Mill this time, it looks beautiful.
