“Great place to spend an afternoon engrossed in history”
Review of Kenilworth Castle

Kenilworth Castle
Reviewed 2 April 2018

The Castle is full of history and wonderful views from the ramparts. It is an ideal place to let the children run around and there was plenty of activities for them. It is wheelchair friendly in parts and even had a lift to view the different floors in the Gatehouse. Really enjoyable trip and I would highly recommend it when visiting the area.

Stepping in to the walls of history gave us goosebumps! We enjoyed every minute of the tour amidst the rain. Would recommend it to everyone specially those who are interested to travel back in time. Very helpful and knowledgeable staffs. Would love to visit this again on Summer time.

Brilliant place to walk around, though the audio tour is a bit confusing, We lost our way tryiing to follow the route, but the content of the commentary is very well done. English Heritage are aware of the difficulties with the audio tour and have plans to improve it.

The volunteer who took us around the guard house was fantastic and kept us fully engaged. The history of the castle itself is enthralling and although a large percentage of it lies in ruins you can still climb the stone staircases and take yourself back in time.

Would heartily recommend .We have English Heritage annual membership which allows free entry. We soon recoup the annual membership fee with just a few visits to dfferent properties Wished we lived nearer to Kelworth as it would be nce to see it change though the seasons..

From the moment we arrived we felt that everything and everyone was designed to engage us and ensure we appreciated the history of which they are so proud. It is a very interesting site and there is something for everyone. It is well laid out, the sign boards are good and we had the audio tour which was flexible enough for us to choose to have more information when we wanted it. We also had a tour of the gatehouse and the guide had very wide historical knowledge of the site and surrounding area. That really added another dimension. We enjoyed coffee and cake in the stable which is very convenient and we also took in the exhibition there which is an excellent introduction to touring the site. At every stage the staff were so customer-focussed and clearly wanted us to love the place as much as they do. We would advise reading the parking information prior to visit.

We joined English Heritage and this was our first visit. The staff were wonderful and friendly especially in the shop area. Well signposted and good disabled facilities. The down side was the very cold cafe area. Also items were advertised but not available. But other than that it is well worth a visit. The views and buildings are brilliant and the garden areas too. I recommend.
