Went today on Easter Sunday for a casual visit to see Shakespeare's county from Cardiff. Had pre- decided a day before to eat at Giggling Squid. Partly because my wife and I are big fans of Thai food, and partly because the menu and reviews looked nice!. First impressions the staff looked a bit hassled and some of the servers lacked English speaking skills. We asked about the portion size of something on the menu, and the server was not very clear with his answer. Also, the cutlery on the table was not very clean; had to get a spoon changed. These are minor things. We ordered the pork dumplings, salt & pepper squid, Thai green curry with rice, and a pad Thai. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes of our ordering, which was surprising, but could have been the case because the restaurant was prepared for lunch service, so it did not take much time to put together the dishes. However, the salt and pepper squid was cold, and seemed like it was prepared before. The portion size could have been better for the mains. The starters other wise tasted really good. However, in the main my wife got a piece of raw chicken in her Pad Thai. Serving raw poultry to anyone is extremely dangerous. When we highlighted this to the manager, he agreed and took full responsibility and apologised. This the threw off track our entire lunch experience, which otherwise could have been a good eat out. The manager did not charge us anything for the entire meal, which showed that the staff and management were very customer oriented. I hope this was a one-off case, but was a sore in my probably once in a lifetime trip to Stratford-upon-Avon.
