Stayed recently after being at CV show for the day. Left bag with them earlier in day no problem, also plenty of parking locally.

Hotel is smart looking, glass fronted and we'll presented. Staff were friendly and efficient.

I went for the larger apartment room, which was the perfect size for me, and would probably be plenty for two. Well kitted out, nice bed, television, kitchenette, good wifi. Decent shower, good towels, nice toiletries. Room was clean and generally quiet.

Also space to work in reception for business travellers.

Dear Keith

What a great headline 'Smart place, good location, good price', thank you very much for that!

Our location in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham means that you're in a vibrant area with many restaurants, pubs, clubs and bars within easy reach but not disturbing your night's sleep. You're also within 15 minutes of Birmingham New Street and all the attractions of the city centre which you can access by tram, taxi, bus, car or train, so plenty of options.

If you stay in one of our Apartrooms as you did, there's a kitchenette and dining area as well as the bedroom, wet-room and seating area, perfect for if you want to spread out a bit, if you're travelling as a couple or want to be self-contained for a longer stay in the city.

It sounds as if staying at BLOC Hotel Birmingham was exactly what you wanted after your busy day and I very much hope that means we'll be able to welcome you back again before long.

With kindest regards

Sarah O

If you're looking for a dark room this hotel may not be for you! Firstly those tablets in the pictures do not go to sleep, they stay lit up all the time. Secondly, we had an APARTROOM, in the living room area there is a purple LED strip above the window blind that does not go off when you turn the room lights off.

That aside we had a few issues, the first room (166) the bedroom blind was on the floor, the second room (164) the bathroom tap handle come off in my hand, and then onto room (162) yes, 3 rooms in 2 hours of checking in. To add insult the following day after a long day out they hadn't cleaned our room.

The staff don't seem to be overly friendly, never bothered to tell us about local parking or breakfasts. No greeting when walking through the lobby, or acknowledgement to your existence.

Rant over, I would still recommend this hotel and would gladly book it again. The APARTROOM has a fridge, microwave, cutlery and utensils making it a perfect place to stay keeping costs down. Room service clean the room well and wash the stuff in the sink, making this a great place to stay. The WIFI is awesome at 70+ Mbps

Room Tip: floor 3 may have some views

Dear David

It's certainly been interesting to read the ups and downs of your review, thank you for all the feedback.

I've had an opportunity to speak to the Manager of BLOC Hotel Birmingham and tell him your thoughts about the false start to your stay. He's investigating the various issues that you had including the room troubles and your view that the staff weren't friendly in the way they should have been. I do draw some comfort from the fact that the team were able to help you find a room that reached the required standard and can only apologise for the fact that it took so long.

When you finally ended up in the appropriate Apartroom it sounds as if your stay improved considerably and of course we couldn't be more delighted that in the end you felt that the facilities of the Apartroom, the high quality of the room service and the great rate were all 'making this a great place to stay' and you'd 'happily recommend this hotel and would gladly book it again'.

Thank you for allowing your experience to be turned around in such a positive way and we hope that next time you're back we'll get it right from the very beginning.

With best wishes

Sarah O

Very kind and attentive staff. The rooms are tiny but functional. Featuresa double bed and a wet room where you can shower, toilet and brush your teeth all at the same time if you wished! Haha. There was a monsoon shower and the beds were kingsize. Cleanliness needs work as when we checked in there was a huge chunk of knotted hair stuck to a pillow and more hairs in the bed that we had to pick out. Also a strange bleach stain on floor and a rip in the flooring. Great quiet location near some cute places. Considering the other prices of hotels in the area it is good value for money but only if you aren't spending ages in the room- certainly not for a romantic getaway or anything but for a night out or wedding or something it's great.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window- especially if claustrophobic

Many thanks for all the feedback in your review of your stay here at BLOC Hotel Birmingham.

It's obviously great to know that you'd recommend BLOC for a night out in Birmingham but I don't know if you're aware of the Apartments that we are also able to offer here. It's fair to say that our standard rooms are of a modest size but are well-equipped and are designed to be perfect for a night or two in Birmingham. If you were staying any longer I wouldn't hesitate to recommend our Apartments; they have dedicated seating and dining areas, a kitchenette and a kettle with tea and coffee-making facilities. They also have the wonderful BLOC King-sized bed that you'll find in all our rooms and are cleaned and maintained to the same high standard.

The issue of concern is that your room didn't meet the high standards of cleanliness that we pride ourselves on. It isn't acceptable to us for our rooms to be anything other than pristine and it's something that I'll be raising with the Housekeeping team. I can only apologise and were this situation ever to arise again (which I hope it won't!), advise you to get straight in touch with Reception who will immediately make sure that you are allocated another room or that the Housekeeping team sort out any issues as a matter of urgency.

I'm so pleased that the staff team get a mention for being 'very kind and attentive' and I know they'll appreciate your remarks.

I hope that everything you really loved about BLOC will mean that you'll be back to stay with us in Birmingham again soon.

With best wishes

Sarah O.
