Stayed in early February 2013 for 4 nights on business as close to Birmingham around 35 mins drive. Positives......warm room and comfortable in general as it was cold outside minus 2c.
Negatives No phone in room socket was broken and phone unplugged asked for it to be fixed they said in the morning it would be done. It was NOT done on my fourth night. So no room service or alarm call for the whole stay. Bath water came out green. Furniture tired and dated. Asked for a blanket 2 times and it never came. Asked again the following day and made a fuss and it came.
Breakfast was buffet style coffee in flask and nasty. It should be at least fresh!
Bacon so salty my tongue has shrunk! Fresh fruit fine and staff friendly. High ceilings in restaurant so very cold and poor lighting very dim.......
Evening meal shocking school dinners on a bad day......mushy veg poor meats and frozen fish DO NOT EAT HERE. £12 not worth it.Ate out the next 3 evenings which was not ideal as I was tired and did not really want to venture out.
Pool and sauna are fine. All areas dim needs new bulbs all over as not replaced. Lots of workmen with shaven heads and tatoos in every night who were intimidating . Stayed in the pool! Lots of trades workmen staying here over 4 nights as cheap cost mid week.
It its day this would have been fantastic needs upgrading and to be cared for/loved. Front line staff friendly in an impossible role of complaints. Management need the sack or training.
Building has character why in the name of God can the Brittania group let it go to the dogs perhaps profit over quality/service. NOT suitable for a couples getaway/romantic break unless you have lost all of your 5 senses.
I would not stay again sadly. They need to sort out the food as a number one priority.

Room Tip: As far away from reception/bar area as noise levels high

Stayed on a one night Sunday Special package DBB plus bottle of wine paid the extra £10 for upgrade to better room total for 2 £59.

Arrived before check in time quite happy not to have room till we came back as going on into Coventry. However very friendly and efficient receptionist told us the room was ready for us. Decided to check the room as seen some previous reviews. Very pleased because although furniture ie desk, tables etc were dated the room was a lovely size. Two comfortable chairs, nice thick heavy curtains and all including the bathroom very clean.

The bed proved very comfortable, and even though the hotel seemed busy with a lot of children there it was very quiet at night.

Dinner was a buffet choice of selection of soup or salad plus pate for a starter, Four mains and vegetables, new potatoes, mashed potatoes, brocoli, cabbage and green beans. I had beef which was a little tough but the piece my husband had was fine. No problem if you wanted to have more. Three or four sweets too.

We had the bottle of perfectly acceptable wine in the bar afterwards. One criticism was a disorganised bar, perhaps more staff would help. Also children on occasions were running around in that area. Parents should be advised on this matter.

I see a complaint about breakfast was being given a table and left to find everything. Well we stay in many hotels and it seemed no different to any other. Fruit juices and glasses displayed and buffet choices hot and cold , cereals, fruit tea and coffee on main station in the middle of the room.

At both dinner and breakfast the tables were nicely laid with crisp cloths, napkins etc and shining cutlery.

All staff we spoke to were friendly and smartly dressed. Value for money could not be beaten when we only paying £30 per head.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 2nd floor room 255. Quiet and did not overlook car park.

Most of the staff need retraining on customer service, as they were unfriendly, unhelpful and totally miserable (exception being the cleaning staff).

The food looked fine and was a serve yourself buffet. The eggs were overcooked and rubbery and the bacon flew off the plate when we went to stick our forks in it. Evening meals were no better and the meat was very dry, tough and tasteless.

We were told to ring when we were ready to eat, which we did, only to be told that we weren't booked in when arriving downstairs and had to wait another 45 minutes as their tables were full. We were also told the tables were all taken in the morning at breakfast when it was obvious that there were at least 8 tables spare! When one couple tried to sit at one of these tables they were asked to go and sit at one of the tables at the front of the hall instead....why?

We would never recommend this hotel and other couples also complained about the standard of the food, however this is no reflection on other Brittania hotels, as we have been overly pleased in the past.

My husband has been staying there on business and i have been for the weekend. The rooms are shabby and dirty and the walls are so thin you can hear everything. When you go for breakfast you are given a table and then left to your own devices trying to find where everything is. The mushrooms are tinned and the bacon and eggs are overcooked. The sausage i did'nt even try.
For your evening meal you can go in the restaurant or have a bar meal. If its busy then the restaurant cant keep up as it is a buffet and if you order at the bar then you have to wait until they have catered for the restaurant. Overall it is a total shambles.
To end my review the worst part is that my husband has now gone to pay his bill and they say his rates have increased and want more money from him. Is this the dealings of areutable firm. NO!!!!!

Room Tip: Don't bother

I stayed at the Royal Court from the 13.2.13 for two nights as a valentines break away with my Boyfriend. Was really worried after reading all the bad reviews but have to say overall what a lovely hotel it is. The reception area was really clean, and the receptionist was helpful and apologized for keeping us waiting as she helped another couple, even though we weren't waiting for more than a couple of minutes. After going to our room (272) we were delighted with how clean it was. The decor on the stairways is a little dated, and the carpet is a little worn, but they are doing some refurbishment so hopefully they'll change that soon. The room it self was lovely, bathroom clean and a lovely Jacuzzi bath. The only slight complaint about the room was the windows, they did let in a draft. But the curtains where very thick and the radiator did keep the room nice and warm. We had both evening meals and breakfasts included in our deal and the food was lovely. It is a help your self buffet which some have criticized but I found that the food was really hot and as a fussy eater, I liked being able to pick what I wanted with my food. The starter was soup or salad. The salad was fresh and there was lots to chose from. The main meal was delicious both nights we were there, couldn't fault it at all. We had ham & leek pie and BBQ chicken on our first night and sweet & sour pork with rice and chicken in mushroom & white wine sauce on our second. Both nights it was lovely. Breakfast was again a self service, but was very hot and no complaints. The tea and coffee would have been nicer if they were served fresh. Drinks in the bar were a little expensive but we expected this as they usually are in hotels. For a pint of strong bow and a Malibu and coke it was £6.90 (to give you an idea of prices).
We spent one of our days in the Spa, which was lovely. There is a sauna, steam room, pool and Jacuzzi. Everywhere was spotless and the staff couldn't be more helpful.
The hotel is situated about 3 miles away from Coventry City Center, and after asking for directions from the helpful staff on reception we had a lovely day out exploring Coventry.
Although some areas of the hotel are having much needed refurbishment our stay wasn't interrupted by this.

I would 100% return to this hotel.
