Having just returned home from a short, but very enjoyable stay at Crouchers, I have to report on the restaurant and bar.

Without prompting, the restaurant manager asked if we had any preference of a specific table. Having made this choice I looked at the wine list, and chose a lovely Shiraz.

Coming down to dinner the table was al ready as was the wine.

The menu varied enough for us to make or choice. An amuse bouche was brought to the table, always a good way to start. The wine was slightly too warm, but this rectified within a few minutes. Gravad lax was made in house and very tasty, plenty on the plate! Our main course was the steak, the jus was simply delicious, again plenty on the plate. The Shiraz went well with the meat.

Special mention has to be made of the dessert course. Choice was difficult, but both of our selection reached the highest culinary standards.

Coffee was served in the lounge with petit fours. Must praise the professional service, with plenty of smiles!

One little note of discontent, was at breakfast. Why make an extra charge for espresso coffee, it is silly and I did say this to Julia at the front desk, on our check out. Noted was the comment. Well done Julia and all at Crouchers.

We will return.

Thank Laurence L

Service OK. Sent through to restaurant area but took 5 minutes before someone recognised we were waiting.
Amuse Bouche OK. Champagne served - slightly warm, only two centimetres in the bottom of the glass, with the bottle top and foil left floating in the top of the ice bucket. My duck was slightly overcooked and the jam way too sweet. What took the mickey was my fathers desert - a tuile that could not be cracked with the fork and spoon provided, nor his teeth. Way too hard and inedible. The chef told us (via the waitress) that the tuile was made of sugar and was only for garnish. On further challenge they said everything on the plate was edible however it was impossible to bite into nor crack. I've just got home (luckily 3 minutes drive) and have had a dodgy stomach already. Not a great night for my father's birthday celebration

A party of seven, all generations, and all raving about the food. I had the peppered tuna loin to start and tried my partners scallops. Then it was on to the Beef Wellington, two huge slices and cooked to perfection. We gorged on the desserts and the chef came out to say hello. I was amazed. Craig can only be in his twenties but so much at the top of his game already. One to watch, especially if he gets his own place in the years to come.
