“Nature Lovers Paradise”
Reviewed 10 September 2011 for a stay in September 2011

Fabulous very well equipped accommodation with the added bonus of red squirrels visiting on the decking every day, together with an abundance of birds flying in to feed on the nuts the owners kindly leave for guests. Lovely place in heart of forest but only a 10 min stroll through the woods into Gatehouse of Fleet with its shops, cafes and pubs. Lots of walks all around the area with beautiful scenery. Cant wait to go back!

“Loved the Shack”
Reviewed 10 July 2011 for a stay in July 2011

We absolutely loved this place - what a wonderful week. There were just two of us that stayed and it was more than adequate for us. We had everything that we needed - the bed was comfy, the shower powerful and the bath a welcome place after long walks in this beautiful area. Big windows fill the shack with light and the aspects from the lounge window were particularly lovely. However, that's just inside.......

The greatest aspect of the shack was its position in the glorious surroundings. If you can imagine the scene in Snow White, little birds visiting every morning (even saw a woodpecker), red squirrels eating monkeynuts on the verandah (5 out of 7 days) and jumping through the trees, actually saw a deer from the verandah and another 2 in the immediate vicinity. It was so uplifting each day. Breakfast on the decking - heaven.

We visited various places in the area - particularly enjoyed Wigtown and its bookstores, the Queens Way and the various stops along the way (loved Deer Range and Otter Lake for a picnic), Kite feeding station and Kirkudbright (fish shop in Kirkudbright - great King Scallops - wish we had found it earlier in the week!) We would recommend to drive off the A75 - some of the small backroads were fabulous.

Would we return..........absolutely!!

“Nature lovers' paradise”
Reviewed 17 June 2011 for a stay in February 2011

February was our second visit to 'The Shack', can't wait to do it again soon. This property is in an ideal setting, the tranquility of the forest, but within a short walking distance of Gatehouse of Fleet in one direction and a beautiful beach in the other. Great for walking enthusiasts and nature lovers. It was amazing to watch red squirrels feed right outside the patio doors. Accommodation spot on too, what more could we ask!

“When can we come back?”
Reviewed 29 May 2011 for a stay in March 2011

Arriving on a freezing cold afternoon in March, the Shack was immediately warm and welcoming.
Two of us stayed, but there was enough room to fit 4 comfortably. The bathrooms were spacious and the power showers were wonderful. The Shack is light and airy with all mod cons and we had great fun watching, and feeding, the birds and squirrels.
There are some lovely walks in the area, from the sedate to the exhausting...and a fabulous Ice cream factory well worth visiting, I would advise bringing the car as it gives you a lot more options, but we could have entertained ourselves happily within five miles of the Shack. Great places to eat and drink as well as lovely countryside. From the warm welcome to the squirrel seeing us off on the last day, we had a great time and headed home refreshed, if a little reluctant !!!
