The gleaming pumps offer 20 beer and ale varieties from Scotland and around the world. There's wines and spirits in any which way and a classic cocktail list for your well deserved post-work tipple. The Holyrood's all day menu includes mouth-watering 'two-handers' - an eclectic array of delicious gourmet burgers, with plenty more large and small dishes including options for our vegetarian pals. We came in as a large group!
We were told that we will wait 30-40 min for a table.
We waited at least 1 hour and two large tables were already given to other people with the excuse that they already had bookings.
We asked how long we will need to wait and the managers said to us with an attitude, “this is what happens to busy restaurants”.

1st of all restaurants that respect their self inform customers that they would not be able to accommodate them.
Much better than leaving them angry!
2nd the restaurant is not busy, it is arrogant and bad managed.

I would not recommend, under any circumstances.

Hi Christoforos P,

We are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your experience at the Holyrood 9a. We do our very best to accommodate everyone, especially on busy nights. Unfortunately, we can't always control how long a large group may have to wait to be seated especially when a lot of the tables are already reserved however it seems we have fallen short on communicating clearly on this occasion.

All feedback is vitally important to us so if you could let us know when exactly your group visited then we can investigate what happened.

We do pride ourselves on having a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and food that's worth waiting for so if you decide to give us another try, I hope we can impress you.

Please feel free to contact one of our management team if you would like to discuss your experience with us further at 0131 556 5044.

After three very busy days of touring we were worn out. So went here on our last night as it wasn’t to far from our hotel.
We both ordered a burger and were probably oneof the best we’ve ever had. Full of flavour and succulent. Came with fries and coleslaw both of which were also lovely.
Friendly staff and chilled out atmosphere. Great for unwinding with a glass or two of your favourite tipple.

As we were staying down the road at The Macdonald Holyrood we decided to pop in here one morning for a full English breakfast. What a great choice. Service was really friendly and fast and the breakfast itself was delicious. First experience of haggis was good too! Would definitely recommend for a cheeky breakfast :)

The food is good. The service is prompt, attentive and cheerful.
We sat to the rear, where there were just tables and a good atmosphere. The front appeared much busier as there were tables for eating and it seemed to be lots of pub drinkers standing between

I’d go back if in the area.

This popular pub gets busy, so plan accordingly. It is very popular with University of Edinburgh students and their families. Friendly and efficient waiters and good food, beer, and whisky.

Hi Traveling-family-0-4,

Thank you so much for the 5* review. We do tend to have a couple of Edinburgh university students along with tourists and our regulars. Always good to know our staff and array of beers, burgers and whiskies are going down a treat.

Hopefully see you soon,
