You could spend several hours in this museum and you still wouldn't see it all. It is really interesting and totally free. The museum is well located and appeals to all age groups. I would thoroughly recommend visiting.

Visited with my husband and 3 children aged 12, 9 and 5 plenty to see and keep them all entertained. We were lucky to visit while the science festival was on and we lived watching the balloon sculpture being constructed. A really wonderful museum.

This is a must do for any visitor to Edinburgh. Even the building itself is amazing with its beautifully delicate Victorian atrium and the new part of the building with all of its nooks and crannies and an elevator that gives you wonderful views of the building as you go up. For the young there are buttons to press and experiments to do as well as stuffed animals enhanced by videos of the real thing. For everyone there is a fascinating insight into the history of Scotland and the rest of the world with a myriad of artefacts and very digestible information boards.

This is a gem of a museum. One can easily spend a couple of hours here going through the various floors and their exhibits. My kids were quite impressed with the various items on display. I would definitely recommend visiting this museum. Entry is free as well.

Happened to be here at lunch time on a cold day so popped in .Saw the menu for the Restaurant which looked interesting and good prices. The wife and I both had the Cullen Skink soup which came with an enormous Mull Cheese Scone For £6 - absolutely brilliant. Too full to eat anything else
