This is a nice restaurant tucked away in a little alleyway in Edinburgh. A little tricky to find, but good food and charming atmosphere.

Popped in for a cocktail as heard good things before coming to Edinburgh, limited seating unless your eating was very busy and had to stand up to drink our cocktail! Didn't stay long as we'd found other bars we preferred tbh.

After you find it, which of course we had trouble doing so, the ambiance and atmosphere is excellent.

Cocktails are pricey but what you would expect from a cocktail bar like this.

The cocktails were, however, very strong and totally delicious.

Charming restaurant down a narrow close from high street. Good food at reasonable prices. Cod was delicate and well seasoned. Smoked salmon delicious Even poured a 2/3 beer (1/2 not enough pint to much). Lots of atmosphere.

Devil’s Advocate has an excellent atmosphere. Their whiskey menu is extensive with 100’s listed. My husband had a glass of the Glenmorangie Nector and liked it (not love).
For the apps, we started with the mussels and the haggis. If you like haggis, then you would probably find these excellent. Nice and crispy on the outside served with raisins and a lemon curd. The mussels with chorizo were also great.

I had the cod fillet crusted with pistachio. It was a very light dish and enjoyable to eat.
My husband had the Jacob’s Ladder which is a braised short rib and it was very flavorful and tender.

We also had a side of the Parmesan Truffle Chips. The chips are massive and the sauce was only on the top layer of the chips so I would recommend asking for extra as they were really dry.

We went at 6pm on a Tuesday and they seemed a little worried that we didn’t have a reservation when we arrived but the dining room didn’t start filling up until we left. If you can, make a reservation in advance.

Thank meremm
