My husband and I stumbled upon The Carnock Inn on the first night of our honeymoon, and have deemed it our favorite meal and experience in our 9 day Scotland/Ireland excursion! First, we ate in the restaurant (I had the steak and ale pie, he had the sausage and mash), and the meals were delicious, and service fantastic. As we ate, we heard the most infectious laughter coming from the bar, and decided to pop in for a drink. We were not disappointed! We were welcomed by the locals (particularly Arthur!), had scotch and beer, and sang along with the jukebox and everyone in the room. I would go back to Scotland just to visit Carnock again!

Popped in here enroute to Edinburgh. Delicious home cooking & friendly waitress at reasonable cost. Cosy decor. Will return soon. A visit recommended!

Visited here last weekend with family having been a few times & it always been lovely. As per the previous times, service was efficient, friendly and flexible. The food was delicious and is great value for money. My parents who aren’t from the area were very impressed with their food. Between us we had the fajitas, steak pie, chicken with haggis (my personal favourite!) & fish and chips. Will definitely be back! Thank you!

We went there last week....didn't find it very child friendly.....if you can get your child to eat salad then well done but my 1 and 4 year old wont so I was abit disapointed with the child's menu.....my steak pie was lovely however the meal was totally ruined when I overhead 2 members of staff talking about me while eatting said steak pie so for that I would say..no i won't be back and I will not be recommending it to anyone.

Thank you for taking the time to post this review which we do take seriously. We are disappointed this visit resulted in a less than enjoyable experience. Since taking over 6 weeks ago we have tried to greatly improve the childrens experience by creating a dedicated indoor area away from the bar with games, books, toys, DVDs, etc to amuse the little ones and outdoor toys in a toy box for children who can also make use of the large grass area next to the beer garden. The childrens menu does have choices other than salad but, with every menu it is difficult to cater for all tastes. However, the side salad with the meals can be changed on request and it is only with 3 out of the 7 main course options, the others coming with peas (2), mash (1) or garlic bread (1). It takes time to change and improve and we are working on a new adults and childrens menu which will be ready in the next couple of weeks. We also already incorporate "smaller portions" from the adults menu as an option for kids as well.

The most concerning aspect in your review is the one relating to members of staff and something we will take firm action if you could give us some more details such as what day and rough time you visited and, if possible what they looked like. To help us engage with you directly and allow steps to be taken, could you email me directly with the details please at elainecollin8@icloud.com.

Excellent service - staff prepared to go the extra mile. Food was a cut above the expected good pub grub. Excellent menu choices and the wine list produced a wonderful New Zealand Pinot Noir. Will definitely return to small more.
