Review of Valente's

Valente's
Ranked #26 of 134 Restaurants in Kirkcaldy
Price range: US$1 - US$7
Cuisines: Scottish
Description: Valentes is a family run business established in 1921, which is now run by the 4th generation of the family to do so. Over the years we have built a good reputation in the Kingdom of Fife. We strive to improve our services and keep high standards every day which past generations started 90 years ago. We value our customers who once came with their grandparents and are now coming back with their own grandchildren. Our shop at Overton Road was refurbished in January 2009 and we benefit from the brand new equipment that was installed as well as the modern setting. EatScotland Says: Valente's Fish and Chip Bar is ideally situated in Overton Road Kirkcaldy Fife. It has a very clean, modern interior and a warm welcome from the friendly efficient staff, serving splendid freshly cooked fish and chips. Fish Supper: "The haddock was fresh and golden, with a crisp batter, served resting on golden freshly cooked chips." "Skilfully sourced, prepared and cooked."

This is reputedly the best chippy in Kirkcaldy therefore on the way home from golf I popped in for a fish supper. Soggy under cooked chips the batter on the fish was the same mostly. You do get 2 pieces of fish but they are rather small and thin. The shop wasn’t in the least busy 4 staff 2 customers so there is little reason for the poor food. It was 4 PM so the only reason that it was so poor is possibly due to it not long opening

First time I was here was over forty five years ago. Family owned by the same family. Handed down among the generations of course. Their was four of us, each opted for their main fish and chips. With salt and sauce. Place was surgically clean. Every surface and each staff members uniforms were clean. Staff were very friendly too. They knew people came here for the special-ness of the place. We also opted for pickled onions and pickled eggs - the latter being a long forgotten chip shop treat of ours. Food was piping hot and crunchy and soft where it should be. Crispy battered fish. Firm chips with a soft centre. We had irn bru too. Well, you have to. Only slight disappointment was the oiliness of the food. Fish was holding onto too much oil for my taste. Still great though. The place is sign posted at roundabouts as a kind of local attraction. And so it should be! If you're in the area and appreciate good fish and chips, then come here.
