Was told by parents this used to be a great hotspot for hidden gems. Wrong! Stalls selling viagra, groups of sketchy, what I can only describe as addicts. Some stalls are completely overpriced!

We went for a supposedly new, trendy pop up market which was advertised heavily in facebook. On arrival there were 3 miniscule stalls selling food, round the corner was the main part of the market with some cheap rubbish and a few dodgy looking guys. The place was actually a ghost town. It's a real shame as there is so much potential to regenerate the area.

As a Scot now living in Australia I go back to my home and visit the family and that was it. Then I married my Australian wife and visits back to Scotland became so much more. So this trip I took my wife to the Barras. Traditionally this was where families would got for a bargain. That has not changed a bargain can still be had. I have never been afraid of walking in Glasgow despite what people say. Using common sense. The people are friendly and helpful. Negotiations can always be entered into for your purchases. Get a gift for loved ones a nick Mack to remind you of the trip. In all my times in Glasgow visiting the Barras with someone who has never been there made it a whole new experience.getting a bite to eat wandering round the stalls picking up a treat or two for the kids. What a day out.loved it.

Probably over 10 years since i have been to the Barras. In it's day it was thriving and such a fun place to visit.

Now it is dying on its feet with most of the stalls empty or closed shops. Those that are open either sell cheap copy DVD's or second hand rubbish.

Run properly this place should be part of Historic Glasgow. Now sadly it is just a run down dump that needs demolished.

This was recommended by a friend who is Scottish when I told her we would be in Glasgow. I sell things online that I find in markets and thrift shops, so of course this was something I wanted to add to the itinerary.

Easy enough to find, not a far walk from the train station, it is not a lively and thriving place like markets I have visited in London or other cities in Europe. It is almost an afterthought. Many of the things sold were new but cheap product. Clothing, housewares, etc. Certainly there may have been bargains to be found there, but they were not our focus. Of vintage items, I found prices to be a bit high, selection low and variety of shops not plentiful. The only place I found some things that I considered to be worth it was from a lovely man in one of the covered buildings, where many of the shops/stalls were either closed (this was a Saturday!) or vacant.

I was so taken aback at the looks if the place I didn't even take photos. And I take photos of everything.

If ever I am back in Glasgow, I probably will not visit the market again unless the city does a major renovation of the place.
