So we have previously stayed in the hotel at Coylumbridge and we are now delighted to have found the lodges at the back. From the outside they look dated and slightly romantic but not sure how desirable. However, on walking in you notice that these have been reasonably well maintained and Well equipped, anyway so the good and the bad:

We had a 2 bed lodge shaped like an 'A' log cabin. a few steps up to the door but meant there was space to store bikes and a buggy.
Good:

Very Well equipped, games table in the living room and all the things you need with a young family (Two bathrooms (1shower/1bath&shower), Microwave, washing machine, sky TV (even had the sport...delighted), place setting for 6-8, dishwasher, kettle, electric hop, fridge (no freezer), drying rack, large dining table (with extension in the cupboard), vacuum cleaner (not sure who goes on holiday to vacuum, each to their own!), cloak area, etc. everything worked (not sure about the vacuum)!

The lodges are quite spacious we did not feel claustrophobic, infact quite the opposite, we have a family of 4 and it was good, kids slept upstairs and we could continue out evening down stairs.

The hotel facilities have been improved ever so slightly, the changing rooms have had a revamp, not rugby changing rooms, more old leisure centre now, the steam room has gone now only a sauna (not too warm a sauna at that possibly too many ppl opening the door!). The kids pool was warm. the Gym is small but well equipped. The food as you would expect from a Hilton was good, breakfast is a a free for all but for young kids ideal. Be aware that there is a kids Buffet menu and if you dine between 5pm and 7pm you are also in for that, if you slight in so you catch the buffet and the evening menu, that would be the best way.

Kids club is free, but you need to book them in, runs between 7pm - 9pm

good quality beding and comfy bed (this suprised me as i have stayed in chalets in Scotland before...no springs in the back had a good sleep)

Woodshed Bar is a good venue to escape for a drink or two.

Small Park onsite (good for amusing the kids in between things)

Softplay onsite (they have finally upgraded the lighting, it no longer feels you are stuck in, on a winters night) could still do with some windows!

Great cycle and walking paths nearby

Very safe environment for kids and we left kids scooters outside, unlocked (not advised) but no one touched them. some other kids were about and our kids started playing with them.

Bad:

The lodge we were in had an old green leather sofa, it was in very good condition but i would say it did not seem to go with the rest of the lodge, seems a shame, it was old but it must have been reupholstered.

We were charged £28+ for heating and electricity for 4 days.....not sure what factor they multiplied the rates by but that we thought was quite high considering.

Swimming pool changing rooms were busy after 3pm, they could still do with some more investment but an improvement from the past year.

Tennis courts at the back need some TLC, usable but considering the charge should be improved.

We went in Easter although the slopes were open, the onsite outdoor centre did not have bikes for hire....they missed a trick here because the hire place at Rothiemurcus had new bikes Trek bikes for hire (tad pricey but i guess that's tourism in Scotland!)

The walls are thin but because of the layout it was not an issue.

Finally:

We really enjoyed this stay, felt rested and relaxed, we did use the Spa lodge which was only 3 lodges away! This is a very good family location for holiday, if you can get one, I would suggest a lodge. The hotel can do with investment and updating. We will be back next year!

Room Tip: Go for the lodges if you have a family of 4 or more, they are worth the extra and give you more options - more like a home from home.

We had 3 rooms consisting of 1 with 2 single beds and 2 with 2 double beds. It was almost £550 for these rooms with dinner and breakfast, there were 4 of us.
Dinner service was ok, dinner food portions were enough however I felt slightly let down on the evening (20.15) dining experience with kids running around the dining area and 1 annoyed, "I'm not a waitress" waitress. The food was ok.
Breakfast was great, chef made as requested and a massive selection of varied food available.
There were 2 3pin plugs outside which was the electric car charge points.
My room was noisy from next room and felt thin walled, I could hear people talking and going to the toilet next door.

Dear Stewart, thank you for your review. I am sorry that you were disappointed with your room rates which are very comparative with other hotels at this peak time of year. Being 'peak time' adds challenges throughout the hotel and our team do try very hard to ensure that every guest has a good experience. We do hope to welcome you back again and suggest you try an off peak date that may suit your needs better. Kind regards. Iain Miller, General Manager.

Disapointing from the outset. Booked a family deal only to discover on arrival that childrens meals were extra and even the adult menu had various supplements. Decor very dated, drinks expensive. Booked and paid the extra to have our dog only to discover that there wasnt a dog friendly lounge or social area. When we eventually did get dinner the meal was very poor and the staff seemed to be distracted. Will not be back and would not recommend it.

Dear Linda, thank you for your review. We are currently upgrading our beds and mattresses so I am delighted that you found them very comfy. We are also busy planning a refurbishment but we do have a rolling maintenance programme that you would expect. Not happy that you saw cobwebs so I will follow this up. Kind regards. Having stayed for two nights found it to value for money for D,B and B. Rooms slightly dated and tired but ideal location and very family friendly. Good meal choice and entertainment. Very busy restaurant especially at breakfast .
