Another pleasant visit to Pitlochry. Stayed at Scotland's Hotel. Stunning building, unfortunately really tired now and the place could do with an update. Damp patches and miss matched taps in the bathroom. Main areas really dated and a bit stale. Service for breakfast wasn't the fastest. Felt our stay was significantly overpriced. Love Pitlochry, but will look at an alternative place to stay next visit.

We received a "voucher" for Crerar Hotels for a "special" birthday, and thought we would use this to visit Pitochry and the enchanted forrest. The Forrest did not disappoint but oh this hotel really did! We were not expecting miracles having read recent reviews! BUT we did expect some of the points that had been brought up recently (and been passed on to various departments to be dealt with) to have been at least attended to, but alas no!
The hotel is tired and in some places really not at all clean! Carpets are frayed, woodwork chipped, curtains stained, showers needing cleaned, window sills and windows grubby need I go on.... just generally needing upgraded for the prices charged.
The mattresses and pillows are "solid" and therefore do not bode well for a decent nights sleep. The rooms are dull and very hot, and when opening windows on the third floor you look down onto an unslightly mess in the kitchen and courtyard area.
The breakfast is all a bit of a disaster, with none of the staff really knowing what they are doing, and the coffee is absolutely disgusting - a comment made in July I see but nothing obviously done about it! Toast was cold and HALF toasted and the presentation of the cooked breakfast itself, was VERY disappointing, it looked as if it had been "massed produced" which it had been! and thrown on plates! All items counted and definitely NOT good value for money either, no one came round to ask if we needed more coffee etc!
Staff at reception seemed to be more interested in sorting out their xmas holiday schedules than making sure the customer received a "happy" face! There was a terrible problem with a noisy cistern in one of the rooms - 305 which our friends were in. - was going to mention this on check out but no one seemed interested in chatting!
Final point - we went into the bar for a "night cap" after the forrest experience and at 10.15 the till had been done! we were not able to purchase a drink with friends unless it was added to our hotel room tab, then when we asked for ginger ale! thought they had had to go to the local coop to get a bottle as the bar man disappeared came back with one small bottle, and then nearly "flipped" when we asked for a second drink in the round with another ginger ale. The bar closed on 11 and we were decanted to the lounge bar. Never saw a night porter or anyone else with the offer of another drink had we wanted one!
All in all a real let down CRERAR - this whole experience would and will put me off using any of your other hotels.

Room Tip: Couldn't give a good tip.

Staff were really nice and helpful. Room was tired, carpet damp from radiator leak, corridor roof leaked one night from a shower above it, lamps P.A.T. were out of date, food was ok but not taster menu any more and one morning the back pudding wasn't cooked and one pork look under-cooked. Bathroom fan didn't work, Wi-Fi was very very patchy, and lift had just had the engineer out fixing it before we arrived. We stayed with family and so don't know the room rate but we wouldn't advise staying, and would probably knock back a free stay even if offered.
Breakfast times staggered so need to book a time day before to be sure of getting it when you need it.
Some crockery and cutlery on table in morning missing but fruit flies were there daily.

Room Tip: Seriously consider not staying :(

Thank you your constructive feedback regarding your recent stay.

All electrical appliances are P.A.T tested in accordance to government standards and our next inspection for these is due next year.

The hotels menu option changed earlier this year and with the this the taster menu was replaced, with a 3 course Tdh menu and an a la carte menu, which has proofed very popular.

We have implemented a reservation system for breakfast to assist us in assuring we meet customer expectations of seating and ensuring they are served in an efficient relaxed manner, the system presently a trial and is showing positive feedback.

Please do contact me at the hotel if I can asssit further.

Rather tired looking interior with carpeting badly needing replacing or steam cleaning but the room was lovely and with all the facilities required. Breakfast was very good with a delicious selection of hot and cold foods.

We travelled as two adults with three children (9, 7, 3). It is never easy finding a reasonably priced hotel which can accommodate us together. So when we arrived at Scotland's I expected a room with fold out beds taking up most of the floor space. Instead we were given a good sized double room which had a separate smaller room for the children. The smaller room had two single beds and a third. which pulled out easily. I was so happy when I saw the space as it makes a huge difference to the whole experience. On top of that, the room was clean, pleasant and well equipped. It was just across the road from the hotel itself in a separate house.

We had the dinner deal and the food was good. enough with a decent choice. The children's portions were really big!

The spa and pool did for our purposes. We took the kids for a swim before dinner and they enjoyed it. However, if I had expected a spa experience, it would have been a bit disappointing. The changing rooms were much like swimming pool atmosphere and they weren't the cleanest.

The staff at Scotland's were pleasant and we,not out their way to help. Even when I left something behind, they offered, to post it onto me or keep it in the safe for me to collect.

The hotel is in a great location, two minutes walk from the main street in Pitlochry and all the restaurants.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Scotland's as a reasonably priced hotel. Unless you are specifically looking for a spa experience, then it might be worth paying spa prices and going elsewhere.

I was delighted to read that the room and food offerings meet and in part exceeded your expectations.

With regard to the spa and leisure facilities this have been passed to the relevant departments for evaluation.
