“Good stay at the Menlo Park”
Reviewed 25 February 2012

We were a group of ten friends who traveled to Galway for a three night stay. The hotel was located a short walk from Galway center. Galway is a great walking city. All of the staff were excellent at the hotel. They were available to answer any question you may have. There was an issue with the public water main when we were there so we were without water in the hotel for a couple of hours but they provided bottle water and stayed on top of keeping you informed about the situation. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Some of the interior was showing its age. The breakfast was a typical Irish breakfast with assorted cereals, juices, croissants, pastries, yogurt, and fruit. They also had the option of ordering off of the hot breakfast menu which included eggs, bacon, sausages, omelettes and the best cinnnamon pancakes I ever had. I would definately recommend this hotel.

Dear Grand Dutchess
Thank you for your great review. So pleased that you would definitely recommend us.
Thankfully we got that water situation sorted with the local authority and that it is not something we have to contend with usually.
We are pleased you found the staff helpful and that you enjoyed the breakfast.
We are consistently upgrading the hotel and at the moment we are installing totally new bathrooms in over 50% of the original hotel. We have put new curtains in the bedrooms, put in new luxury chairs in the rooms. We are also laying new carpets in the corridors, having re-lauched our new bar last year... We'll soon be All new!
Thanks for the review.. we look forward to seeing you again..

Initially given a room on the back on the first floor. Had a constant air con noise from somewhere, moved to the front on the first floor. Good for the next 2 nights - until Fri night where the noise from the bar kept going late. Don't get us wrong, the bar was good and we used it, just didn't want to hear the music in our rooms once we had left.

Had a problem with the water, not the hotels fault as works were being done, supplied bottled water and apologised.

Staff friendly and helpful, but choose your room carefully, not the first floor.

Food in the hotel ok, ate here one night, but much better available in town. Good for a lazy night.

Room Tip: Not on the first floor. Turn the heating off the standard of 5, which the cleaners seem to put it ba...

Dear Karl 1984
Thank you very much for your review. The rooms on the first and second floor are all exactly the same n style, decor and layout.
The first block was the orignal hotel which was opened in 1998. The front rooms are slightly larger and have a queen and single room in them.
The back rooms tend to have queen bed only and are lovely cosy rooms and are still quite spacious. We have other rooms which were added in 2000 and we sell these as economy rooms especially at weekends because they are over the function room and can be noisy. We allocate these to people who are attending the function or to other guests on the basis that they are aware there may be noise from music. In this second block, the "front rooms" overlook the side of the hotel and the "back rooms" are indeed more spacious. If you have any concerns about noise, and would like an especially quiet room, as you say, it is best to ask for a front room on the second floor.
We are getting great feedback recently about the food and I am sorry that your experience does not seem to have been as good. We take all feedback and discuss this at our management meetings and we value your feedback as it helps us to develop and improve.
We hope to welcome you back again soon.
Best regards from all the team.

My husband and I stayed here for a few days over Christmas, I cannot praise the staff and the hotel enough. We travelled with our lively two year old. She was made welcome. Our room was supplied with a travel cot but also had a single bed which was ideal as babs had the option of using either. Room was clean and airy on arrival. Staff were always courteous and could not do enough to help us with filling, heating bottles etc., Would definitely return and would highly recommend the hotel as it is in an ideal location for walking into Galway city and seeing the sights around.

Stayed in this very pleasant hotel in mid-February. We had a lovely room with a king sized bed (superior room) and were very comfortable for the one night we were there. Lovely fresh fluffy bathrobes were placed on the bed. The bathroom was well supplied with good quality toiletries. Staff in the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful, special mention to Ciara at reception for whom nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the bar as we had to eat early and the main restaurant didn't open until 6.30pm. The food in the bar was excellent and despite being very busy we were served promptly. WiFi is free in all areas of the hotel. It would appear that the hotel has been recently refurbished as there was a nice fresh smell of paint in the hallway outside our room. The location of the hotel is very convenient being just a mile or so from the city centre. Would we stay at this hotel again? Definitely! Would we recommend the hotel to others? Without hesitation! What more can I say.....

Room Tip: Go for the superior room!

Dear Anna
Thank you very much for your lovely review. So pleased that you would like to come back and see us again. We are always refurbishing.. we are a family owned hotel and the owner is always re-investing in the product which is important. Ciara was delighted that you mentioned her by name!
Also great to hear you enjoyed the bar food. We are launching a new menu there in the next couple of weeks as well as some lunch specials also.
We look forward to welcoming you back again... From all the team at The Menlo Park .. thanks again!

Had a lovely stay in this hotel over the NYE weekend. The customer service was excellent, the bedroom spacious, with a lovely and comfortable king sized bed (we had a superior room) and I would commend the breakfast in particular. The buffet available was lovely but the addition of a menu from which you could order other breakfast foods such as omelettes and pancakes from the kitchen at no extra cost really impressed. We had dinner one of the nights we were there as well, and again, the food was excellent. Would definitely stay in this hotel again for future visits to Galway

Thank you so much for your review. Delighted that you liked the superior rooms. Our guests do like the King beds and extra space. We have four different styles of decor in our superior rooms..
We were also delighted that you enjoyed our omelletes and pancakes, they do offer something and bit different and it means a lot to know our guests like these options and enjoy them.
We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future. Thanks again from all the team..
