You really cannot go to Kilkenny without stopping here. We dropped in to the museum to see what it was and (stupidly) assumed we were going to walk right back out, but Pat the tour guide instantly drew us in with his spellbinding storytelling. We were blown away by the history of Kilkenny! It was like hearing about a real-life, medieval edition of Scandal. You can’t make this stuff up. Make sure to ask for Pat (the tour guide) and support this new museum through the gift shop!

The beautifully restored chapel that stands there today is the product of centuries of rich history and the labour of a team of highly skilled and dedicated archeologists who sifted through the abandoned ruins of the old church.

I recommend paying the extra 1.5 euro for the handheld audio guides. Put aside 30minutes for this stop.

Not open that long and we found this Museum very interesting indeed, giving the history of artefacts found on the site. Family history going back centuries. You can take a tour, or self-guide. The Museum is small enough not to get 'bored', tho the exhibitions and videos can keep you there for a few hours! The staff were friendly and willing to share their knowledge. Thank you All. ENJOY!

Really learned a lot about the history of Kilkenny from the tour guide and the interesting displays. Very worthwhile to visit, loved reading some of the old letters they had on display and hearing the stories of what life was like so many years ago.
