It was only by accident that I discovered the small, family-run Italian eatery tucked away
with it’s delicious offerings and friendliest of staff on the banks of the River Boyne in Drogheda, Co. Louth.

As soon as we walked through the door, Simona’s warm welcoming dynamic pervaded the atmosphere of this modest but unique cafe-restaurant.

Not one of those fine cuisine restaurants with heavy white table linen, lead crystal glasses and inflated prices yet where one whispers as if in a church. Simona is an unpretentious, family-run, family friendly, real Italian get-together where strangers are just friends you haven’t met and relatively simple meals are transformed into gastronomic delights using the freshest and best ingredients. Service is highly professional and engaging, the wine list limited but excellent.

The culinary genius of the young Italian lady ‘master-chef’ created a dining adventure that evoked nostalgic memories of sunny holidays in Sorrento Italia and offers clearly the finest Italian food in the country. With Italian vistas on the walls and jovial, friendly waiting staff, the only thing missing was background strains of Arrivederci Roma. As we left, well watered and fed, the very busy Simona and her staff all waved goodbye.

Diners don’t need a huge budget to enjoy a meal or more accurately, the experience at Simona but with limited seating, and scores of satisfied diners, securing a reservation at Simona may be a challenge. Book early… and often. I’ll be back!

I've visited here a lot but not recently up until last week. Nothing has changed still great food and service, not over priced. Can be tough to get a table.

I've visited Simona Cafe for lunch on a number of occasions and each time the standard of food has been as excellent as the last. Lovely menu and the staff couldn't be nicer. I'll definitely be back again.
