we arrived at 12.15 on easter saturday 2018. we were shown to a table and ordered drinks and from the main menu my wife and i ordered the prawn cocktail for starters and i had the steak and ale pie and my wife had the slow roast chicken. The prawn cocktail was servered in the usual deep glass you expect, but the lettuce was whole in the bottom and the prawns dumped on top. this made the lettuce difficult to cut up and it was served with white bread when it clearly stated brown on the menu. the slow roast chicken was so dry it must have been cooked at 100 mph and the ale pie was so hard baked it was almost uneatable. it took the mains 40 minutes to arrive and only did so after we asked. The only saving grace was the very pleasant young lad who served us and who is clearly wasted working here. we first ate here 50 years ago and on this showing shall be giving it a miss in the future. The food was not chea. with the small glass of wine and half glass of coke it came to over £36. I am sorry i cannot give this any rating other than very poor.

After less then one week of reopening you would have thought they would have been prepared for a busy weekend!!! Think not!!! The bar was only manned by one bar staff and extreenly busy a wait of over 15 mins to be served. We were seated to our reserved table and all chose our food from the extensive menu only to be told they had run out of one of our choises. Whilst getting ( after another excessive wait) another drink and talking to another diner, guess what, ther choise of food was not available! Returned to table and main meals served which cannot be faulted. Most of us had steaks and after some confusion about how they were cooked (raw, medium, well done) they were eventually eaten by the right persons and enjoyed by all. The table was eventually cleared and deserts (only three) ordered which took over 30 mins to arrive? We also asked for the bill at this time and it was delivered promptly.! Overall the bar staff and waiter did extreenly well under the pressure they were under, but the management and BREWERY should and COULD have done more, for example employ more people for re-opening, then re-jig the shifts as per the hot spots!, NEVER have just one bar person at peek times, and the manager be visible and interactive!!....Who was the manager???

Went for a birthday dinner with the family, greeted by being told we hadn't booked when we had, then she said we were early we were there at the right time, then we got seated...waited half hr for a waitress to take food and drinks order, when food eventually arrived veg was cold, chips were cold, beans were cold! we then waited another half an hr for them to clear the table, when we did ask for someone she wondered up and said what can i do? waited another 15 minutes for the dessert menus we ordered and waited another half hr for pudding, the wine we ordered never arrived. and while we were there other people had come in that had booked to be told they had to wait half an hr. really disappointed as loved this restaurant before the refurb !!!
