This is the smaller sister hotel to the Manchester MacDonald (which is also fantastic). The Townhouse has something of a boutique feel and has recently undergone a major refurbishment. The rooms are generous in size and are well decorated and clean. Beds are comfy although you might want to try and avoid rooms overlooking the street as it can occasionally be a little noisy.

The bar is open all night and service is friendly and prompt. There is also a fantastic restuarant with some lovely dishes - sausages are recommended!! Great wine list too.

Location is great with easy access to both Manchester Picadilly and tram stops. Definitely worth a stay!

After reading some of these reviews I was actually slightly apprehensive about this. If you do your research properly it's not difficult to find at all - on the corner of princess street and portland st which is very handy when you're navigating / looking at a map. It's a very short walk from Picadilly Gardens.

You do however need to look for 'The Princess Hotel' rather than the MacDonald Townhouse, something I was quite relieved that I'd noticed on Tripadvisor. I phoned the hotel in the morning telling them that we were driving and asking about parking etc. The receptionist was very friendly and told us exactly where to park - £17 per 24hours in the Q Park on St James St. About a 2 minute walk from the entrance of the hotel.

Check in was was very friendly and efficient. I had booked an 'exectuive room' (through their website) but when we got there found out we had been upgraded, without request, to a suite, which was lovely and consisted of a lounge, a big bathroom and a bedroom, it had a bathrobe and slippers each as well, but only one small bottle of sparkling water, which I found a bit odd! I didn't find noise a problem at all although we were only on the 1st floor but that might be because the bedroom part of the suite was at the back and there wasn't actually a window - although it was very cleverly designed to look like there was a window there - with a big curtain which was lightened from behind. I didn't find this a problem as I found the lighting etc added to the ambience.

Breakfast was fab - friendly, proffessional and efficient service, and also really tasty. We were celebrating our anniversary and received a card and some drinks on the house as well which was a really nice touch.

All in all in my opinion a very nice modern city centre hotel for a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade - we got one without even asking!

Myself and my wife stayed for four nights as a trip away for our wedding anniversary.
our room was decorated beautifully, the bathroom was just gorgeous! everything was absolutely spotless, the bed was so comfy! The staff were lovely and friendly, especially one manager who couldn't do enough for us.
hotel is located on portland street, bring ear plugs if your a very light sleeper.its in a perfect spot for manchester city centre, china town and the gay village and close to transport links. i would absolutely go back again!

Room Tip: Rooms on portland street are a bit noisy from the traffic outside

This hotel was not easy to find as the signs say Princess Hotel, relieved to find it in the end. The public areas of the hotel are all very nice and the staff are very helpful and polite. The room was very tastfully decorated, clean and comfortable the only downside was the noise from outisde, an awful lot of sirens all night long, I know it is a busy city centre but they were just so loud and we was on the 5th floor also we could clearly hear the people in the room next door to us. Need to sound proof the windows at least, shame as it would have been somewhere I definatley would have stayed again.

I have just stayed at the townhouse with my wife for our anniversary, we had a lovely stay and will return on our next trip, initially the welcome was very friendly and we had a nice drink in the very comfy lounge bar downstairs, our room was very light and airy on the fourth floor with great views and the bed was very spacious and very comfortable.

In the morning we paid for our car parking which was discounted, but not by much we saved only £2 but what I can not stress about enough is how nice the breakfast experiance was from start to finish, we thought about heading out for our breakfast to save money but were very glad we didn't, the waitress was very friendly and efficient and the selection of continental food was very fresh and delicious but the cooked to order English was 2nd to none and I have stayed in lots of 4/5* hotels

I will be back

Room Tip: The corner rooms have great views from 2 streets
