“An Idyllic Spot in the Dordogne”
Reviewed 28 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Gite St Martin and its owners, Chantal and John, truly exceeded our expectations. The centuries-old farmhouse was charming and authentic and set among beautiful gardens. The kitchen and bathrooms were up-to-date and the beds very comfortable. Our favorite spot was the covered patio where we enjoyed lovely views of the gardens and nearby mountains.

Chantal and John offered genuine hospitality and practical advice for our travels in the area. Their warmth added great value to our stay.

“Beautiful property with fantastic hosts.”
Reviewed 23 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Gite Saint Martin is just perfect. The house is beautiful and set amongst a gorgeous garden. From the house, the terraced garden leads down to a pool which was very refreshing on the hot days.

The only thing better than the house, garden and pool are the hosts themselves; John and Chantal are very warm and welcoming (they're Australian and French respectively, both fluent in English and French). My wife and I have many fond memories - eating home-made crepes, playing with our daughter in the pool, chatting to John and Chantal, the list could go on.

My wife had 30 hours of french lessons with Chantal and can't recommend her highly enough. Chantal is a very experienced french language teacher. She is kind and patient and her lessons are varied and fun. My wife could speak French confidently by the time we left - all thanks to Chantal!

There are lots of things to do and explore in the area (prehistoric caves, bike riding, canoeing, beautiful villages, castles, the Dordogne River, and the ubiquitous wine & cheese). This really was, for us, the quintessential French experience.

“Do not miss out on such a great opportunity.”
Reviewed 3 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We stayed 4 nights with Chantal and John and we loved the accommodation, the ambiance of the garden with beautiful roses and wild flowers abounding, a swim and a sunbathe by the heated pool, and the occasional sound of the church bells ringing nearby. Chantal is most charming and friendly and made us feel very welcome in her beautiful gite, providing plenty of information about the history, restaurants and activities of the area. She offers a delicious breakfast and will also, for a very reasonable cost, provide guests with a picnic lunch if you need. We wish we had been able to stay longer and have no hesitation in highly recommending this property.

“Spectacular!”
Reviewed 22 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

Chantal & John, what can we say! Wonderful Hosts - always there to give advice & assistance, but never encroaching ! Your Beautiful Gite St. Martin is complete & comfortable - Cristina even wanted to buy it!

We didn´t use the ´wood burner´ but radiators were ample to warm up the cool nights of November!

We loved being with you ,in your most beautiful part of the world; and for sure will return; hopefully to invite you to come to Dinner at our new home in the Dordogne!

Recommend for anyone to stay at Gite St Martin at any time of the year( we didn´t use the Pool - even though I believe John would have had it ready if we had requested!

Till our return we will say A bientot, and not Au revoir!

Marci Beaucoup,

Gary & Cristina, Vitoria,ES Brasil

“Ideal location, fantastic hosts, beautiful property”
Reviewed 27 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We booked the full cottage for a week with friends and after they departed we stayed on for an additional week in the B&B. Both experiences were outstanding. The well appointed cottage is situated on a beautiful property - we even enjoyed a swims in the pool in mid-October. When we shifted to the B&B we had the additional pleasure of Chantal's fresh breads and delicious homemade jams every morning. Our hosts, Chantal and John, were very generous with their excellent advice on the huge diversity of places to visit in the area. There are so many caves, museums, sites, gardens, beautiful villages and lovely markets to visit as well as beautiful hikes and walks. Chantal also offers French lessons and although we didn't book them on this visit we will definitely include them when we return to continue to explore this wonderful region.
