We did the train ride as we did not have too much time. We would, however, have preferred to walk to see all the stone locations at a slower pace.
The alignments are truly impressive. I read Alexander Macbain's book 'Celtic Mythology and Religion' and his thesis are that they were built by the Picts as a form of ancestor worship i e. they ore pre-Celtic.
Although Stonehebge is visually more impressive, it is the sheer scale in terms of numbers of menhir stones that is truly outstanding here.
