One of those times when you wish TA had a 1/2 star rating system as this hotel was above "average" but not 4* imo.
The location was excellent, just across from the river with easy walking to the old town of Auxerre. The rooms were comfortable with a classical "old" country house type of feel to the furnishings. Breakfast was good with an assortment of breads, cheeses, meats, hard cooked eggs and fruit and juice. Parking was secure at the back of the hotel but you may need to arrange timing with other guests as cars are parked one behind the other. This wasn't an issue for us.
Hotel staff were very helpful regarding places to eat. A good simple hotel that I would return to if visiting Auxerre again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front look across a road to the river. Some noise from partiers on boats. May be a problem if you're a light sleeper.

Stayed here for one night en route back from Provence. Delightful, traditional style hotel in great location by the river in Auxerre. So quaint, beautifully presented and fabulous traditional French chateau-style decor. We had a magnificent room overlooking the river - the room was so lovely, decorated in muted shades and such a comfortable, massive bed dressed with crisp white linen. Good bathroom, well stocked minibar and a lovely touch was the tray of assorted glasses and corkscrew - so useful seeing as we were in the heart of Bourgogne! Breakfast was ample and well presented and room service was available. Good restaurants very closeby and all within easy walking distance of the mediaeval heart of the city. Secure parking at rear of hotel was a great bonus. We'll definitely be back for a long weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor overlooking the river

Le Maxime is well located on the riverside in Auxerre. It has its' own individual and somewhat old fashioned character which we appreciate.
We had a room on the first floor with a view of the river. The neutral decor was typical French chateau style - pleasant, if a little frayed round the edges. The room was compact although large enough to accommodate a super king size bed.
Generous size bathroom which would benefit from an extractor. Adequate breakfast served by a welcoming and helpful member of staff.
We would choose this hotel again if we were in the area.

Room Tip: try and book a river view room if possibe

Well located on the pretty river bank and a short walk to the old town.

Quite bland buildings and staff. Needs a bit of oomph applied! Very small double room at the rear of hotel was at least quiet.

Breakfast was a typical French hotel buffet but with reasonable choice.

Bike storage was at the side of the garage at the rear of the hotel.... the least secure of all the stops we made on our bike tour, but we didn't have any problems with our bikes.

There is no mention on the website of the bar 2 doors away playing loud music until 2am. Totally ruined our stay. We left early. I did not come here to listen to brain numbing disco music. This should be mentioned on the website
