“The apartment would be great for 2-3 people, but a bit too crowded for 5 adults.”

Excellent location, near to metro, gare de nord and gare de East. Many bakery and restaurant nearby, no need to worry about food variety. Charles is very responsive to my questions and very helpful throughout my stay.

“Amazing location and a slice of the real Paris”

We were met at the door of the apartment by the super-helpful Charles, a fluent English speaker who talked us through all the necessary things in the apartment. You can tell he takes real pride in his business, and this was confirmed on the two occasions we had to ask him for a bit of help - he responded to texts immediately and sorted everything out in person.
In terms of location, the apartment, quiet at night, is utterly central (and walking distance from Gare du Nord where we arrived). There were three boulangeries within a two minute walk, so we bought a shedload of French baking every breakfast which often lasted us until dinner. On the first night, still tired from travelling, we took the easy 10-kminute stroll to Montmartre for a beautiful view of all that lay in store for us over the next few days. In fairness, we were very lucky with the weather and didn't need to spend much time inside. Our three children, two of them teenagers, shared the generous living room space with our younger son while we took the bedroom. There was always hot water, the kitchen was small but very easy to use, the décor is stylish and relaxing.
In short, this apartment worked for us. The Rue des Martyrs (which our Rough Guide described as the foodie heaven of the city) was a minute away, and we made ample use of all it had to offer for picnics. We wanted to experience something authentic. The area was fairly un-touristy, with the Metro, schools, a swimming pool and ordinary shops and supermarkets all nearby. A real find.

“Great apartment for first time Paris travelers"”

We arrived in Paris at the Gare du Nord train station, coming from London. The apartment was about 5 minutes by taxi which was great. We arrived a couple hours earlier than check in and were able to leave our bags with the cleaning gal then went to venture off. The apartment building looks a bit dated (of course) but the apartment was newer, very clean and spacious. That is except for the tiny kitchen but we weren't there to cook so it wasn't a problem. There were many restaurants in the area along with banks, supermarkets, etc. and even a couple of souvenir stores. The toilet is very small, in the hallway but with no sink. Not a big deal as we used the one in the kitchen. The shower sink are through the bedroom so not much privacy for anyone staying in that room. There is only one full length mirror in the apartment and it happens to be inside the shower room so I recommend adding one to the living room.

The wi-fi worked perfectly and the washer was a huge plus. Although it takes very long to dry so bring a clothesline or you won't get more than one load done in a day. Also if you don't speak French, make sure you write down instructions on how to use. It seemed easy enough when they showed us and by the time we were going to use we could not figure it out!

Metro is about a 10 minute walk and very easy access to all tourist sites. I think the Eiffel Tower and Catacombs were about the furthest thing (other than Versailles). We ended up staying at the Eiffel tower past the last train so had to take a taxi. Cost around 25 euros but getting around by metro costs much less.

Communication with Charles was great. He promptly responded to any questions before and during our stay. He also had maps and menus of local restaurants in the apartment which were very helpful.

Only two negatives but neither bothered us enough to deduct a star:
1. It is a challenge getting bags up three flights of stairs but we had that issue at all our apartments in Europe and be warned there is no light at night.
2. There is a school next door and from 7-8 in the morning, the kids are all out screaming at the top of their lungs so bring earplugs.
