Maison Tranquil was the perfect place for all of our family to get together. It is a beautiful house set in the rural French countryside. The house is very spacious and comfortable easily accommodating our 12 family members.
Mark and Andrea (the owners) where the perfect Host's. They cooked evening meals for us and the food was first rate, very delicious.
I would highly recommend staying there.

“Disgusting place and owners”

Having just returned from this place I am thoroughly disappointed in both the "Luxury" gite and the owners. On Arrival the place looked fantastic, but didn't take long to realise not all was as seemed. Not sure where to start, but will try.

The "solar heated" pool was freezing, to the point where the children were crying, made worse by having to scoop out dead mice and shrews every morning. The pool room consisted of an ancient ping pong table, with cracked balls and all the pool accessories were either burst or had been chewed to death, by what can only be previous residents or the numerous rodents.

The outdoor play area was overgrown and the children were banned by the owners from playing on the trampoline due to health and safety reasons.

The outdoor terrace housed swallows, which used the seats and floor as target practice - not the best with 7 under 5's running around.

Internally everything was spacious, but with 2 broken toilets, a broken floor which one of the guests put there foot through, not enough hot water to cope with all the guests, smokey fires, low hanging beams that three of us bashed our heads on, cowers everywhere and broken beds, there was more than enough to complain about, but have a laugh about at night.

The fixtures, fittings and equipment throughout were old and in desperate need of replacing. Chairs kept falling apart and the side to our sons cot kept falling down if he leant on it, meaning for his own safety we had to have him in the bed with us.

We had Andrea cook for us on arrival, which was good, and Mark cook for us on the last night, which was terrible and provided us with another good laugh as it was equivalent to a Roadchef meal.

Finally, on departure Mark came down and was disgusted how we left the place. Given there was 9 adults and 7 children all that was needed was a general clean and some washing up from breakfast - what you'd expect when leaving a self catering cottage. Nothing was damaged, broken, ruined etc... and was relatively clean given 16 people had been living there for a week.

However Mark, in the true style of a bully and coward, muttered something to myself and the other men in the group but shouted at one of the females in the group, reducing her to tears whilst screaming at her to get out of the house. To follow this up he then sent a number of abusive texts to the same woman to the point where it is considered harassment.

Half of the issues we had could have overlooked if it wasn't for the disgusting, abusive and cowardly attitude from Mark, who blatantly didn't want us there from the start.

All in all, this could be a great place if the owners had any money to spend on it, but the lack of investment and attitude issues mean we would not return or recommend this as a family retreat to anyone else.

Clearly we have to respond to the comments above, however it appears that their names can't be mentioned.... Unfortunately they are an ill-considered reaction to being told that they left our house in such an appalling condition on their departure..
Up until the point they returned to the UK there was no negative feedback at all regards their stay, in-fact they didn’t even hang around to respond to our horror and choice words at the mess they chose to leave our house in, they just left - in a hurry clearly very embarrassed.
They even requested to stay on due to airstrike issues, and requested late departure due to late flights on the Saturday - would you do that if the house was so bad!?
Posting the photos of the appalling mess left would speak volumes and any reader of this would be horrified, unfortunately though TripAdvisor won’t allow it. We will post on Facebook.
Sadly, the world we live in means that now social media and forums such as this are used as a pathetic attempt to affect businesses which we and many others work so hard at.
We have a young family and have been doing this for 6 years, never have we come across such blatant disregard and respect for us and our property, apparently, quote ‘running a guest house we have to deal with it’.
Whilst we are not going to react to the terrible comments and blatant lies above, we do need to respond to the following…
If you found the pool so cold why on earth would you make your children swim in until the point of crying - cruel??
I do clean the pool regularly, though in this instance it was impossible with the clothing, nappies, crisp packets and toys clogging the filters and damaging the pool hoover, so I gave up.
We do live in the countryside and there is wildlife, leaving soiled nappies and food around the pool over night will attract mice. Whilst we have made attempts to move on nesting swallows, we are in no position to control nature.
The two issues mentioned regards toilet system flushes were resolved immediately, one broke through your children’s misuse, the other easily replaced as they do unfortunately break.
The trampoline is currently stored in a part of a garden not accessible to guests, it has not been set up for guest use, hence the instructions on arrival - though apparently this needed further clarity to be fully understood by you?
We have two young children, the house is child friendly, however people do need to take ownership and supervise their children - or bring a nanny, we strongly discourage climbing all over the coffee table - sorry it had to be us to tell your kids.
Why ask us to cater a second time if the first experience wasn’t good, you were full of compliments at the time especially on the vegetarian option - you paid in full both times?
Your issues regards 'cleaning charges', we do not charge for cleaning as we appreciate the the house needs a cleaning, laundry etc - what we do ask is that the house is left as guests find it - an issue we have NEVER had to encounter before. You chose to make no attempt whatsoever - it is not a maid service, as such you will be charged a cleaning fee.
We appreciate we can’t please everyone all the time, however your group displayed a complete lack of respect for our house and us.
Unfortunately there is not a forum ‘Guest Advisor’ we would love to save other businesses from such disrespectful guests, You are certainly not welcome back at our property.

This holiday accommodation is excellent. I stayed here in late November /early December and the sun shone almost every day which gave plenty of opportunity to walk the beautiful surrounding landscape. I have no hesitation in recommending.

Had a brilliant time at Maison Tranquil. Setting is as tranquil as the name suggests but still close enough to the main cultural activities and of course Carcassonne which was beautiful. Would highly recommend.
