I suspect our encounter with this delightful establishment is somewhat typical for the time of year: we were travelling south and wanted a first night stopover around 200 miles from Calais ... in many ways a shame, as this place is worth a much more extended stay (and the same applies to Le Mans).
The essentials - comfort, cleanliness, hospitality and value - are all excellent, added to which are large measures of consideration, flexibility, organisation, character and local knowledge, and superb breakfasts.
Must mention: for the proprietors, hospitality is not a job, it's a calling! They simply could not have been more accommodating or considerate.
Perfect? Sadly not. It was very warm during our stay, and we made the mistake of trying to leave windows open. Many rooms overlook a road that seems busy at all hours, so traffic noise was both loud and constant. When used, the double glazed windows did an excellent job of protecting against the noise, but forced us to choose between tranquility and ventilation! After suffering a disturbed night, we worked out that we could have closed the double glazed widows facing the busy road, left the bathroom door open and opened the bathroom window for ventilation ... but that was hindsight.
Overall: despite the serious shortcoming, so many positives demand a recommendation, and we will surely revisitMore
