Owner description: Facing the sea, the exotic botanical garden has a subtropical microclimate unique in France. The temperature annual average 17°C. Experiment garden, greenhouse with rare plants, it houses beautiful collections of palm trees, bamboos, citrus-fruit, edible tropical plants, that is all together over 1400 species. Thanks to its path with hundred year old palm trees, its pond with lotuses, water hyacinths, giant water lilies from Amazonia and its atmosphere of dry forest and jungle, this garden evokes memories of trips to the tropics.

The visit of the garden isn't worth in this season. Waist of time and money! It was recommended by the "office du tourisme". The visit was really disappointed. Every other garden n the town and the flowers along the streets in Menton are much better and impressive than what we saw during our visit of the Exotic gardens.

Thank Ludmila V

We are really sorry to read this. Please, know that the garden has suffered from a snow episode in the end of February. It was the first time in 30 years. The Garavan bay has much suffered than the rest of Menton. The plants of the garden are not used to a such cold. Even with the intensive work of the gardeners, we can't fight against nature. We really hope you'll have a chance to visit the garden again, soon, it will be in a better state, with exotic flowers from all over the world. We hope you understand and, please, receive our apologies even if the weather does not depend on us.

Not a keen gardener but this was a good place to visit. Did some sketching and took plenty of photos. Have been told by a local that April is a good time to visit to see many plants in full bloom. If you're interested in plants there is an audio guide for a token sum. The route is well marked round the gardens and there are many shady paths and sunny spots. Be warned - the paths are steep in places (although there are some handrails) and made of fine gravel. You need flat shoes or trainers, not sandals. I would advise covering up arms, feet and legs as the mosquitoes are voracious. They had fed well on my sun cream as I discovered to my dismay that evening!! The #1 bus from the town centre (Route & timetable available from the Gare Routiere) drops you off on the sea front by the Hotel Napoleon for 1euro 50 and then it's a short but fairly steep walk off the main road. It is signposted.

Tjhese gardens are well laid out but have the look of not being terribly well cared for, perhaps hits by budget cuts

This is a beautiful garden that you can see many areas of tall bamboo, or water ponds, or every type of plant imaginable.
Pictures look like Monet's garden.

Lovely garden to walk around, overgrown but fits in with the charm of the place; would have been completely peaceful if the workmen were not in the garden, but overall glad we visited and would recommend it
