Hotel du Soleil & SPA
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 24 June 2017

Hotel du Soleil is well located, near the old town of St Remy and a short distance from the Van Gogh museum/clinic and the Roman ruins. Our room was of average size and was blissfully cool despite very hot temperatures outdoors. The bathroom was spacious and very clean. Closet space was good. Our room had a hotpot and instant coffee/tea. Ice was nearly impossible to obtain, though. The pool was refreshing in the hot weather, and there were plenty of lounge chairs in which to relax. Breakfast was plentiful and included plenty of protein. We came early, so quantity was not a problem. The staff were quite friendly and helpful , though a bit harried. The only negative was lack of an elevator. I would certainly stay here again.

This became our pied de terre for traveling around Provence. We missed the sheep herding through town Monday morning after Pentecost. It was hard/impossible to find with Waze, but easy if you just walk across the travelers bureau parking lot.

Contact the place directly, as it was more expensive via internet.

We stayed on 2nd floor -or 3rd floor in American. Rooms and bath are large with "European king bed " and very comfortable.

The pool closes at 8PM. The planchette with cheese wine and bread was a bargain, with some sausage picked up on the way.

We did not get to use spa services, schedule that ASAP.

We would gladly return. You are short drives to Roman ruins, Avignon, Arles and Aix en Provence. This is a small town steeped in culture and spirit.

And the price was a bargain

We stayed at this hotel for two nights and thought it met our needs. It is in a great location once we found it, it was a little challenging to find it originally but after we did everything was great. There was ample parking, and the hotel staff were lovely. We stayed on the second floor and as a reminder, there are no elevators but we really did not find this to be a problem. We actually thought it was kind of cool because it is charming and in such an old building which is nicely redone. request an iron and an ironing board if you need, they seem to have one that is shared for all the guests. Again, this is not a problem in our opinion, just something to know. This hotel was in a very good location and close to town where there are plenty of restaurants bars cafés and shops. We would definitely stay here again when returning to the area.

Very clean property in quiet location near town with ample free parking and good free wifi. Hotel has a pool which is modest but again very clean and usable. Room was small but just enough for 3 nights stay. When layi g on my bed my head was looking straight at the toilet which was about 3 feet away. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room which we like but only one tiny milk pot between two of us. I asked for more and was given two extra! Breakfast was €11 each per day which was just about ok as I doubt you'd get it cheaper in the town. I do agree with some comments of other guests re the quantity of food and drink laid out for breakfast. It was a "just in time" process where by the minimum was laid out and slightly increased when more guests arrived. A bit mean but having said that what I had was always enough and and of decent quality i.e coffee bread cheese and sweetbreads.
+ve: Overall our stay was satisfactory. Very clean hotel. Close to town. Most things worked. Free car parking and wifi. Good pool and free towels. Easy access after hours.

-ve: I once again have to agree with other guests about the staff attitude. There is an atmosphere around the place particularly at reception and breakfast area. There was one female with blonde hair at breakfast who didn't smile or make you feel welcome at all. But then again I found this a common theme across many parts of Provence generally. Maybe it the French way?

Summary: It was fine for 3 nights. But staff, please cheer up and give a little more to your guests.

Lastly a bit of advice. When in town avoid Mirabeau restaurant just down from hotel. The rudest lunatic I ever came across serving there. Don't go there.

We had a nice experience one day and when the staff changed things went badly. For instance, there was not now ice cube available in the entire hotel when I inquired on the second day. Nothing off the official menu either. Night and day experience. This is why we rarely stay in hotels anymore.
