Once you cross the old bridge to the opposite side of the river you will find a sign Schlangenweg/Philospoherweg directly across the street. The path is cobbled stone and a bit of a climb. It is not steep but rather "snakes" its way back and forth hence its name. A local was even running up the path with his dog. Those of us far less fit certainly paused a few times on the walk up. The views from the Philosopher's way gives you a different perspective - you can see the town and the castle. The way is lined by a lot of private gardens full of flowers and plants. We primarily went up for the view, walked a little took some photos and turned around and retraced our steps. There were no other tourists there at 9 am.

The more fit, the better for tackling this hike but the reward is a gorgeous view of the entire city of Heidelberg and the Neckar River. Once at the top, you become aware of the great use made of the Philosopher's Way by locals in pursuing their athletic workouts. An added bonus to checking out this walk is an introduction to the less touristy side of the river. Bring your camera--No bad pictures!

Came here out of curiosity. Some nice views, and as I walked along the views became better & better.
The end of this walk is at an old Nazi site, very weird & strangely beautiful.
Enjoy!

It's quite hard beacuase of the stairs but it's defenitely worth it. It's the perfect place to spend the afternoon after visiting the city and enjoy the beautiful sunset!
