Lovely walk and beautiful views of the Neckar River & Heidelberg. Not a difficult walk but well worth it.

We were staying at the Marriott right at the Neckar. We headed out and right there was the Iqbal Ufer, named after a S. Asian Philosopher
Poet who stayed across the river and regularly trekked the Philosophers' Path.

There are a number of stops as you go up. You can view it from the comfort of a stone bench too.

On the other side of the Neckar river, the climb up conveniently starts at the end of the Old bridge. It is a decent climb up, but there are several viewing platforms along the way, where one can take a rest. From the top one has very nice views over the Old bridge, the old town and the castle and surrounding wooded hills. It is a pretty nice walk, and one can walk down towards the next bridge.

Once you cross the old bridge to the opposite side of the river you will find a sign Schlangenweg/Philospoherweg directly across the street. The path is cobbled stone and a bit of a climb. It is not steep but rather "snakes" its way back and forth hence its name. A local was even running up the path with his dog. Those of us far less fit certainly paused a few times on the walk up. The views from the Philosopher's way gives you a different perspective - you can see the town and the castle. The way is lined by a lot of private gardens full of flowers and plants. We primarily went up for the view, walked a little took some photos and turned around and retraced our steps. There were no other tourists there at 9 am.
