We spent a week in Heidelberg and were lucky enough to have good weather. We saved the Philosopher's Walk till the last day and it made a great Grand Finale to the holiday. The approach from Alte Brucke is probably the best; you can either do a short pleasant walk above the Neckar coming down the steps at the next bridge, or you can roam further. We made it to Thingstatte and St Michael's Monatery ruins, well worth the 2 hr uphill walk and fabulous city views on the way. As someone remarked earlier, I agree the views from here are better in my opinion than from the castle. It's a good way to get fitter after all that rich German food!
