Very good wine selection, very attentive staff, cosy atmosphere, especially liked the tortilla and the patatas bravas.

We went there because this restaurant was ranked #1 in Karlsruhe by tripadvisor users. It did not disappoint. It was very crowded yet the service was very quick. Staff are very friendly and were eager to help. Note - they have only tapas as advertised. If you go there expecting large dishes, you will be disappointed.
We came here late in the evening hoping for a place to chat with friends over a nice relatively quiet dinner, but unfortunately we caught a game night and the place was very crowded, we were shoved to a table with another couple in a tiny corner. We had a baby with us but the place wasn't suitable for her at all. No baby chairs, too loud and too dark. The tapas themselves were delicious, but relatively expensive for the little servings. The waiter was nice and helpful though.
This is a small and pretty popular place, mainly frequented by groups of students or other people who want to gather in a very casual atmosphere. The impression is more like a pub than a restaurant, and it can become quite crowded. The service is great, very friendly and attentive.
However, everyone who considers the very limited selection of tapas offered in El Toro a great deal of „original Spanish food“, has never been in Spain, and especially never in a tapa bar.
So I can recommend this place for occasions and gatherings where communication is first priority and food a „nice-to-have“-addition. If you’re focussing on the food only, you might be disappointed. We had a nice evening, however.
Highly rated, we chose to dine here but were disappointed to learn that the establishment is basically a tapas cum wine bar.The ambiance is nothing special and the noise level on the loud side. Despite all of this, other clients, apparently well aware of the situation, were nonplussed because the establishment was so packed with clients and reservations that we were obliged to sit at the bar but were forewarned that those seats were also reserved for a certain time before which we had to finish. We nevertheless had a few glasses of house red and a selection of tapas. The establishment, apparently, is a good bar scene for a few drinks and tasty nibbles after a hard day's work.
