the hotel is ideally located with a tram stop right in front of it. The city center is in walking distance. The rooms are nicely decorated, clean and quiet, the breakfast is really good. The only disadvantage is that they charge you before you have even seen the room. They say that it is out of necessity because the reception desk is in an adjacent building.

They charge your creditcard for rooms/date's your never used. When confronted they simply say that they can not return the amount and that the booking is closed!!
SCAM artist, do not book a room at this hotel!

Very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff; newly renovated; very clean rooms with beds that provide you with an excellent and restful sleep; a scrumptious breakfast; not far from everything.

Note: Request a QUIET room at the BACK of the huilding when making your reservation

As with other reviews, the hotel is actually called the Zi Hotel & Lounge so this review is on here under that name as well.

Having read the reviews before I stayed, I was a bit concerned that I wouldn't like the hotel but it was really good for the price (I booked in advance and it cost around 60 euros a night including free breakfast). I had a room on the 1st floor and although it overlooked the street, it was quiet at night with only the trams/traffic noise during the day - I did have the windows closed due to the time of year.

The room had 2 single beds pushed together as a double, with a comfy chair, desk & chair, ample wardrobe space, kettle & tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom had a shower and throughout the room was very clean.

Breakfast was on the 4th floor and had a wide selection - hams, cheeses, breads, cereals (including fruits & nuts), lactose/gluten free options, tea/coffee, juices, plus scrambled/fried eggs, sausages, and pork meatballs, salad items, fruit salad, yogurt, and fresh fruit.

For me, what made this hotel was the location - it's right next to Karlstor tram stop so it's easy to get a tram to the railway station, and to other places. One stop from Karlstor is Europaplatz where the main shopping street is. A day ticket can be bought from the platform opposite (cash/credit cards) for 6.30 Euros or there are single tickets available. The main shopping street is also only about 5-10 minutes walk. There is a supermarket (open to 9pm each day but closed Sundays) just along the street.

The only reason why I can't give this hotel full marks is that the reception is closed between 12am and 6am. To access the hotel rooms you go through a door just along from reception but use a plastic card (same one you use for your hotel room). As I was at an event and arriving back to my room after 12am, if the card didn't work I would not be able to access my room until 6am.

Although the receptionist (all of whom I found to be friendly and helpful) said that they hadn't had problems in the past, they did allow me to have a spare card in case (as I was travelling alone). My first card did actually stop working during the day so had to get it reset. So this is the only reason why I can't give the hotel full marks in that there is no one around during the early hours - this obviously won't be a problem if you do not intend to stay out late. Perhaps the hotel could consider having a night porter available in case there are problems with accessing the hotel/room during the night.

Room Tip: During the summer, paying for a quieter room may be better if you are a light sleeper.

The location of the Hotel is convenient (near to the centre) but not in the best neighborhood of the town.
Positive point: breakfast included with good variety of breads, jelly and other food; room and bedroom were very clean.
Negative point: the room is not cozy and the furniture is old, prices vary and can be higher than a 4 star hotel.
Definately bellow average accommodation for a 3 Star Hotel. I only recommend to book it, when the price is very low.
