I'm quite new to European City Break travelling. I travelled with my 16-year-old grandson and stayed at two hotels in Stuttgart due to availability. Two nights in each. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised with the City Hotel, it totally lived up to its reputation. Please don't expect the Radisson but it is definitely quite a few notches up from hostel ratings. On arrival, the staff were very friendly and helpful, ensuring that we had twin beds and not a double. The room and bathroom were very compact but there was adequate storage space for a short stay (no under-bed storage). We stayed in room 21 which was at the front, 2nd floor with a balcony and it was very quiet. Free wi-fi which was a bit weak at times. There is no air-con in the rooms which was a drawback as when we were there it was extremely hot and humid, but they did provide a fan free of charge. The rooms were immaculate and clean. Bathroom had good flush system and shower. Reception sell the three-day transport passes (13.50 euro) which are excellent and can be used on S-bahn, U-bahn, buses and the rack railway.
The location of the City Hotel is impressive. It is a minute or so walk to the city centre and Hauptbahnof station. If you feel lazy, walk to the top of the street and you can hop on the U-bahn in Olgaek for a couple of stops to the station.
Breakfast comprises of a choice of cereals, yoghurts, fruit, breads, croissants, hams, cheeses and jams, eaten in a beautifully decorated breakfast room with an outside eating area, for those sunny days. To drink there are fruit juices, a choice of teas and a fabulous coffee making machine. I would have rated the hotel five but the second hotel just pipped it to the post.

Room Tip: There is one room facing the front on each floor with a balcony. If you are a smoker then you allowe...

I spent one night in transit at the City Hotel arriving after 23h00. Reception did contact me and provide instructions on how to find my key and door code in case of arrival after 22h00. Reception was also thoughtful and left the WiFi codes in the room so I could have Internet access. The room was a little hot and maybe a small fan to circulate the air could be nice during the summer months. Breakfast was in a well lit open dinning room and very good. I walked in the morning 15 mins from the hotel to the Hauptbahnhof. All good and would stay again in in Stugart.

At the recommendation of a friend, we stayed here for 2 nights during our week long trip to Germany. It was a wonderful stay! It is a quaint, small hotel...if you need fancy, this isn't your place. Although the rooms are small, as is the bathroom, everything is clean and tidy. And gummy bears on your pillow every night! The included breakfast was great -- a coffee machine to pick what you want (cappuccino, etc), a selection of cereals, yogurts, rolls, meats and cheeses. And a nice little glassed-in room to enjoy your breakfast in the sun. Our room must have been away from the WiFi because the strength of the signal was awful, but that is our only "complaint". I would definitely stay here again when visiting Stuttgart. It is an easy walk to some wonderful restaurants, do take the time to find the walk up to Penguin Ice Cream -- we made that adventure both nights we were there and it was delicious!! There are a few parking places in the front of the hotel...we got lucky the 2 times we needed to find parking.

Very nice hotel with good stuff. Registration only up to 22.00, so be careful. Parking is free, but only five-six places and very tight enter. It is closely spaced to the city centre - 10 minutes by foot.

We were a bit worried at staying in a small city hotel but all was fine. Great in fact as the guy on reception was so cheery and helpful, we could have chatted to him all day! The room was good and bathroom too with radiators warming it up well. We parked at the front of the hotel but there were a few spaces at the back-I think you really need to book a place if possible. An easy walk into the city with its wonderful Christmas market and decorations-brilliant. Breakfast was good if a little limited but after 8 different hotels serving similar breakfasts we didn't know what we would have liked different anyway! Well worth staying here when you are in Stuttgart.
