One of the landmarks in the square and the starting point for most of the tours. Inside you can find tourist information. On the hour, the town's main legend, the Meisterdraught, is played out in the two windows on either side of the clock face.

In the former times only the counselors entered this building in the market place area . The art clock at its facade represents the legendary Master drink from the year 1631. It is opening its window shutters between 10 am and 10 pm always to the full hour. The former mayor Nusch emptied a 3,25 Liter tankard full with delicious Franconia wine at a draught by command of the Count Tilly and with this act he prevented the destruction of the city. The gable is decorated beside the big town clock from 1683 and the date display as well with a sundial from 1768 as the known empire coat of arms.

This lovely building is home to the Tourism Center which has its own entry. The exterior is very nice, but sadly the little "show" that occurs hourly was a big waste of time in the cold. Two little windows open and a mechanical person in each window moves back and forth for like 5 minutes. A yawn...

This tavern is no longer a tavern but is now the tourist office. On the hour the windows open on the Councillors' Tavern to depict the drinking of 3.25 liters of wine by the mayor to save the town during the 30 years war. Don't go out of your way for this, but just see it on one of the many times you will probably pass through this area.

The tower of the Councillors Tavern has figures that at certain times of the day open up and two figures face each other and present a short show about in the past how a mayor saved the town by drinking large quantity of beer or wine not sure which.
If you are taking the Rick Steves' audio tour of Rothenburg he explains the history and of how the mayor talked a raiding party of not attacking the city if the mayor could drink 3 liters at one time. Fun reenactment.
The building is very historic and at one time was a tavern and is right next to town hall on the main plaza.
