Description: Bieberbau at Durlacher Str. 15 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf is part of a former studio and dwelling house. Built 1893/94 by Wilhelm Walther for the sculptuor Richard Bieber, it was nearly completely destroyed by a firebomb during World War II. Only the rooms and decoration of what is now the restaurant survived. The stucco ornamentation you can admire here have been created by the most advanced students and trainedcraftsmen of the principal and owner. He maintained a plasterer's and sculptuor's studio. The decorations depict different motives from mythology and rural life. They show advanced technical skills. The premises in their organic design provide an insight into the stuccateurs' craftmenship unique for Berlin around the turn of the twentieth century. They offer a unique spatial experience the qualitiy and complexitiy of which were out of the ordinary. In the backyard of the house there were several studios, amongst others those of the expressionist work group ,,Die Brücke" (,,The Bridge"). Between 1910 and 1913 Max Pechstein and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner worked here.

We went to Bieberbau last night and were greeted kindly. The service was great and we had the 4 course meal. That coaliflower green kale soup was amazing and the main course brought back pieces of shortly fried kale. We are quite picky when it comes to food but there are no regrets for this place whatsoever!

My husband and I visited Bieberbau for a delayed Valentin's dinner. We had no expectations and even less, seeing how how far off the beaten track it's located. However the moment we walked in and were greeted at the door of the beautifully and tastefully renovated dining room, we knew we were in for a treat!
And a treat it was...we each chose a three course menu and were delighted at the finesse, precision and creativity with which the dishes were presented. Not to mention the taste! Bieberbau's claim to fame is their skill with herbs and spices and with each of our courses there was a moment of surprise with regards to the mix of tastes.
Especially the gruyere, aubergine and plum desserts blew our minds!
Thanks to the team for a perfect valentine's evening!

Bieberbau is one of the places in Berlin that have one Michelin star (by now there is about a dozen of them or so). In terms of location it's in Wilmersdorf which can be a bit outside if you stay in Mitte for example. But it can easily be reached by taxi and public transport.

We had dinner in Bieberbau yesterday evening and overall enjoyed the experience. The restaurant was very full (on a Wednesday evening) and we booked out table some weeks in advance. It seems essential to book ahead and I don't think you have much chance as a walk-in.

The food is very nice in taste and quantity (not too much and not too little). The staff is very friendly and professional as well. The website is highly informative and the menu shown there was consistent with what we saw in the restaurant in the evening. Two points merit some special mentioning:

First, it is possible to mix dishes between the two different menus in order to replace some dishes and create a custom experience. I was not aware of this from the webpage and found it a great idea.

And second, although the restaurant does not advertise this, they offer to make a wine pairing by glass if you ask for it. We did so and the pairing was very nice, so definitively a good choice.

Prices are quite reasonable as well. The menu is about 65 EUR for 5 courses plus 30 EUR for the wine pairing (5 glasses -- one per course). So roughly 100 per person in total. With water, coffee and two glasses of campaign the total bill was 230 EUR which seems more than OK.

High-end (i.e., Michelin-starred) restaurants in Berlin sometimes suffer from very slow service. The issue was less so in Bieberbau where the whole dinner took something like 3 hours with the restaurant being full to the last place. So in sum a great experience. I would recommend Bieberbau and plan to return at some point in future.

This place is for the ones that can afford expensive meals as it serves 3-5 course meals with selective wine choices. I say selective as this restaurant offers great dinner wines to go with the fine meals. A place for the Fast Trend and Jet Setters that expect friendly staff with excellent knowledge when recommending the meals with wine choices.
