Description: Bieberbau at Durlacher Str. 15 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf is part of a former studio and dwelling house. Built 1893/94 by Wilhelm Walther for the sculptuor Richard Bieber, it was nearly completely destroyed by a firebomb during World War II. Only the rooms and decoration of what is now the restaurant survived. The stucco ornamentation you can admire here have been created by the most advanced students and trainedcraftsmen of the principal and owner. He maintained a plasterer's and sculptuor's studio. The decorations depict different motives from mythology and rural life. They show advanced technical skills. The premises in their organic design provide an insight into the stuccateurs' craftmenship unique for Berlin around the turn of the twentieth century. They offer a unique spatial experience the qualitiy and complexitiy of which were out of the ordinary. In the backyard of the house there were several studios, amongst others those of the expressionist work group ,,Die Brücke" (,,The Bridge"). Between 1910 and 1913 Max Pechstein and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner worked here.

We dined at the Michelin rated Restaurant Bieberbau. There was a warm welcome as we were led to our lovely table. The interior décor of the restaurant is very nice and clean. After dining here, we were impressed with the standard of the food served as everything was so beautifully seasoned to ensure an array of wonderful natural tastes and flavours. The ingredients used for the dishes were very fresh tasting and felt as though everything was from Bieberbau's own backyard, and the beautiful aromas made the feeling of a light Alpine breeze was in the room. The tastes and flavours of the dishes, including our daughter's wonderful vegetarian option, certainly made the feeling of us all tasting the stars, Michelin stars. The drinks, especially the wines accompanying our mains, were of the highest quality as was the service with wonderful and polite waiting staff. This was a very good fine dining experience in a quality restaurant with quality food, service, wines in such a relaxing and comfortable environment in wonderful surrounds.

The restaurant is in an old building. Decoration is stylish, wooden ceiling, nice colours great ambience.

We ordered aperitiv, five courses menu (you can choose each dish between two menus) with a glass of excellent wines with each dish and coffee. Very good price quality relation. And the food was outstanding.

I have a difficult diet due to allergies: no milk products and no wheat. They prepared all dishes according to my diet. I got the same dishes as others. Extremely high quality and innovative solutions. For example one dish was cod with two sauces: saffron and tasty herbs. Also instead of cheeses I got warm tofu with tasty sauce, grilled slices of cherrytomatoes and a hint of salad. I usually rate the menu with a scale of 4 to 10 and Bieberbau was absolutely 9.5 with a very strict scale.

The service was very professional, caring and nice. In the end I got a possibility to go to the kitchen to thank the chefs for my excellent dietary dishes.

Bieberbau is absolutely a must if you visit Berlin. We took an U-Bahn to Innsbrucker Platz and took a 5-10 minutes walk from there.

The food was nice, but not spectacular. The service was excellent. The setting was comfortable but nothing elaborate. Bread is made daily.
